Organizational Unit Overview The School of Dental Medicine is composed of ten administrative offices and four academic departments. The Administrative units include the Offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, adjunct Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, adjunct Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development, adjunct Dean for Academic Success and the adjunct Dean for Business Operations and Financial Affairs. The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry and Foundational Sciences.

Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the underserved population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational practices for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service-Learning Centers located all over North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed.

Job tasks Seeking a faculty member in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at the School of Dental Medicine, East Carolina University. This faculty member will also serve as the Director of the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program.

This faculty member would be responsible for supervising and administrating this specialty program at the East Carolina University, School of Dental Medicine. The residents receive their training at the School of Dental Medicine's Greenville location, in both the dental school and hospital settings. The Director is responsible for the didactic and clinical curriculum of the program and coordinating training in the program. The Director works closely with the Division Director of the of Pediatric Dentistry, the Division Director of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and reports to the Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.
Specific tasks include:
· Preparing appropriate Commission on Dental Accreditation reports and documentation, including self-study documents.
· Maintaining admission standards, recruiting and selecting residents.
· Working with and coordinating didactic and clinical activities with other ECU dental and medical residency programs.
· Providing clinical teaching in ambulatory and hospital settings. Preparing performance evaluations for residents and staff, financial reports, accreditation reports, and other reports, as necessary.
· Preparing and submitting grants to secure additional funding for the program.
· Other responsibilities and tasks as assigned. Fixed term or tenure-track position available.

A pediatric dentist is a faculty member who serves in and supports the Division of Pediatric Dentistry in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. The pediatric dentist reports to the Division Chief. The Division of Pediatric Dentistry is responsible for the education of dental students in the area of pediatric dentistry and for the training of the residents in the Pediatric Dentistry and other residency programs.
Specific tasks include:
• Supporting the didactic and clinical activities within the Division of Pediatric Dentistry.
• Conducting scholarly activities to support promotion and the granting of tenure.
• Working with Division faculty and others to develop and deliver state-of-the-art continuing education programs in the area of pediatric dentistry on a regional, statewide and, if possible, national-wide basis.
• Actively participating in the school's faculty practice plan.
• Assisting in school and pediatric program accreditation activities.
• Assisting in Division quality assurance and improvement and compliance efforts.
• Seeking to serve on committees and boards for state/federal government agencies, professional societies and within the school.
• Responding to assignments from Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics and the Division Chief essential to the department, division and school operations.
• Performing other tasks and assuming additional responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair and the Dean.
• Fixed term Title Clinical adjunct Professor or tenured rank of Associate Professor or higher available.

Contingent upon available funding.

Minimum Education/practice DDS or DMD (or equivalent) from an appropriately accredited institution
skills in dental education.
A graduate of a CODA accredited program in Pediatric Dentistry.
Board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry
Possession of, or eligibility for, a teaching or regular dental license in North Carolina (a North Carolina dental license must be secured by the time of employment).
capability to obtain license and certification in pediatric moderate sedation in the state of North Carolina
Broad expertise of issues in dental education.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation DDS or DMD (or equivalent) from an appropriately accredited institution with skills in dental education.
A graduate of a CODA accredited program in Pediatric Dentistry.
Possession of, or eligibility for, a teaching or regular dental license in North Carolina (a North Carolina dental license must be secured by the time of employment).

Preferred practice, Skills, Training/Education Commitment to evidence-located teaching and practice.
Clinical practice in dental education at the institutional level, working in development, implementation, evaluation and monitoring of departmental programs leading to the dental degree.
practice with pediatric dental resident education.
practice with advanced forms of pediatric sedation.
availability to apply academic practices of contemporary dental education and traditional educational values to the Community Services Learning Center model.
PALS certification.
practice with digital record keeping, imaging, and/or grading.
