See what we are all about on Instagram or Facebook @westerncider or on our website - westerncider.com Listing description The Head Cider Maker must be a strong leader, enjoy comradery, and be a motivating force in the cellar. They are responsible for managing the production crew, and assuring every step of the production process runs without a hitch. This position requires an in-depth expertise about fermentation, maturation, sanitation, and packaging stcapability. First and foremost, the Head Cider Maker must assure all fermentations are taken care of from juice to the final package. Information technology is their responsibility to forecast production volumes located on sales, order ingredients and enological supplies, and schedule staff. Besides ensuring consistency with our regularly packaged ciders, this position is also tasked with running bench trials and creating new ciders. Western Cider makes somewhere around 30+ different ciders each year. The Head Cider Maker must have an excellent palette and a creative and thoughtful mind for creating new beverages. This position requires meticulous record keeping for ordering purposes and alcohol taxes. The tax system is complex and Information technology is the Head Cider Makers job to have accurate numbers and reporting. Full Time Position: Hours may vary week to week depending on fermentations, but generally Monday through Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. During harvest season and pressing season (Oct - early Dec), fermentations will require monitoring over the weekends. Prerequisites Required: broad cider or wine making practice High School diploma including computer competency and effective written communication Clean and valid drivers license Forklift Driving practice capability to work both independently and with a team capability to lift 50 pounds Preferred practice: Undergraduate or graduate degree in fermentation science or related field Previous practice managing staff Head Cider Maker Job responsibilities: Receiving Juice Inoculation of ciders Fermentation Management - regular density and pH measurements, nutrition management Basic laboratory analysis Racking/Transferring juice/cider Filtration - x-flow and cartridge Carbonation - Force carbonation and methods of natural carbonation (bottle conditioning, methode champenoise, pet nat, etc.) Product Development and R&D Barrel program - monitor maturation, maintenance and cleanliness of barrels, filling and emptying, topping off, record keeping superviseing and scheduling of both cellar and packaging staff Hiring and training General Record Keeping - to include fermentations, packaging, inventory, projections, trials, cider maturation, lab reports, lot tracking Record keeping specific to taxes and TTB compliance Submitting formula approvals for new ciders Ordering of all cider ingredients and superviseing ordering of general production supplies Forecasting Quarterly and Annual Projections Developing and maintaining SOPs for all production procedures Cider and Tasting Education with front of house and back of house staff Compensation and Benefits Package: Competitive income located on practice Paid Time Off Paid Holidays Health Care Plan Matching IRA Cell Phone Create a Job AlertReceive an email alert when similar new jobs are posted.
