This position is designated as mandatory. The incumbent is expected to use sound judgment with respect to maintaining personal safety given their individual circumstances, but also to make a substantial and good-faith effort to reach the work site in a timely manner when adverse weather or other conditions affect normal campus operations. Primary Purpose of Position The incumbent will serve as part of the Transportation unit within the Parking and Transportation Services department. This position will manage everyday operations and staff for Transportation programs and services offered to students, faculty and staff. Programs include: Niner Paratransit, a point-to-point discapability transportation service for eligible program members; Niner Rides, the campus' on-demand, ride-sharing program; Niner Transit, the campus' transit operation that is provided by a third-party company. Other responsibilities include managing a team of 15-20 employees, monitoring and supporting scooter/bike/car-sharing services, bicycle lockers, bus shelters, chartered and special event transportation, in-vehicle bus and bus shelter advertising, and performing other tasks as assigned by the adjunct Director for Transportation or their designee. Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: Bachelor's degree and one year of practice related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and practice. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. University Preferred Appropriate qualifications: Graduation from a four year college or university and at least three years of program associate practice; or an equivalent combination of training and practice. Essential Job tasks » Direct day-to-day management of all transportation-related areas of the department including: » Niner Transit, Niner Paratransit, scooter/bike/car-sharing programs, bicycle locker rentals, department fleet management, in-vehicle bus advertising, bus shelter advertising, chartered and special-event transportation. » Direct management of approximately 20 staff members, to include recruiting, hiring, training and general employee relations. » Assumes the tasks of the adjunct Director for Transportation in their absence. » Ensure operations are meeting performance and safety targets. » Minimize transportation service disruptions and resolve any unscheduled delays, possibly having to make decision in difficult situations. » Provide department leadership abilities with various reports and support department initiatives and projects. » Review and process necessary billing for contract and chartered transportation services. » Represent the department's programs and services when attending campus stakeholder meetings. » Works with campus community members, internal and external customers to promote alternative forms of transportation. » Respond to general customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner. » Ensure vehicle inspections are properly completed and at the frequency required. » Track and manage department vehicle and equipment maintenance. » Coordinate with Information technology team on software and technical components of all transportation programs. » Work to promote an environmentally sustainable operations wherever possible. Departmental Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education » Bachelor's degree in Transportation and Logistics and at least five (5) years of transportation program administration practice, or an equivalent combination of training and practice. » Five (5) years of managery practice. » Five (5) years of professional practice in a passenger-carrying transportation function. » Proficiency with Google software products (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, etc.) and a familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, etc.). » Strong customer service expertise, with the capability to communicate clearly and address customer feedback in a professional manner. » practice in campus transit or transportation in a higher education setting. » expertise of ADA laws and regulations. » capability to make sound decisions in pressured situations, and the capability to pivot with little notice. » capability to work independently and in a busy environment while portraying a professional demeanor. » capability to work in a team environment with multiple applications and responsibilities.
