Posting DetailsPosting InformationPosting Number: FAE1860 Advertised Title: Head of Performance - Asst/Assoc Professor Campus Job location: Main Campus (Memphis, TN) Position Number: 002869 Job Category: Full-Time Faculty Department: Theatre and Dance Position Summary: The Department of Theatre & Dance at the University of Memphis seeks candidates with demonstrated expertise and practice in performance to bring leadership abilities and dynamic vision in reimagining the B.F.A. in Performance curriculum. Responsibilities include: » Teaching courses in beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of acting. » Opportunities to teach courses in affiliated performance areas exist. Certification or broad practice with multiple approaches in teaching vocal production (Rodenburg, Linklater, Fitzmaurice, Lessac, etc.) would be especially valued as the capability to teach vocal production would be an asset. » Other areas of teaching assignment could include stage movement, stage combat, and/or intimacy choreography, depending on the prosperous candidate's interest and practice. » Contribute artistically to a vigorous production season through actor coaching and work in other areas of skills. » The candidate is expected to maintain a creative research agenda in professional theatre. » Service includes responsibilities as the Area Head of the B.F.A. in Performance (Acting) concentration, assigned committee work, academic advising of B.F.A. and M.F.A. students, and collaborating with the Area Head of Directing in mentoring M.F.A. directing students in their work with actors. Minimum Position Appropriate qualifications: » An M.F.A. in Acting or equivalent terminal degree is required. » Documented prosperous teaching practice and a commitment to student mentoring appropriate for a professional training program offering the B.F.A. in Performance. » Demonstrated record of professional achievement in the field. » The candidate's accomplishments must reflect their commitment to working with a diverse student population and capability to contribute in significant ways to the academic goals of the department and university. » The prosperous candidate will cultivate innovative, collegial, and professional contributions in all areas of teaching, creative research, and service. Special Conditions: The Department offers B.F.A. degrees in Design, Performance, Musical Theatre, Dance, and Dance Science as well as the M.F.A. degree in Design & Technical Production and in Directing. The performance spaces are supported with a complement of well equipped, on-site, production shops furnished with modern technology. The Department consists of 14 faculty and 5 staff persons.
