Organizational Unit Overview The Department of Academic Affairs at the Brody School of Medicine is responsible for leadership abilities and managing all academic programming and assessment related to medical student education . Academic Affairs is responsible for the curriculum, selection, and promotion of students and for maintaining the school's accreditation and education programs. Units within the Department of Academic Affairs include Admissions, Student Affairs, Medical Education, Student Success & Wellness, Diversity Affairs, Clinical & Educational Scholarship, Simulation and Clinical expertise, Continuing Medical Education, and Data Analysis & Strategy. The Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the BSOM, hereinafter referred to as ?SADAA,? is the chief academic agent of the BSOM and provides leadership abilities for all units within Academic Affairs. S/he is responsible for all educational programs related to the doctor of medicine program. The SADAA is responsible for the preparation, recommendation, and supervision of the budgets for the Academic Affairs office and its units and for superviseing the accreditation process for the MD program (over 350 students, with plans for expansion of class size). The SADAA is the spokesperson for the school with appropriate state and national associations and organizations and with the community medical care delivery system relative to educational issues. He/she represents the school on university-wide committees and councils as deemed appropriate by the Dean of the BSOM. The SADAA represents the school in appropriate groups and councils dealing with plans and policies for medical education statewide. At the national level, the SADAA represents the school on appropriate committees and councils of the Association of American Medical Colleges and other national organizations and agencies concerned with medical education.

Job tasks This position will serve as the personal and confidential adjunct to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (SADAA). tasks include: organize the SADAA's calendar, schedule events with both external and internal participants, prepare all travel documents, track vacation balances and provide excellent customer service expertise as the EA of the administrative office. This position forms strong working relationships because Information technology often serves as the first point of contact for Academic Affairs. This position's responsibilities extend across multi-faceted units within Academic Affairs and the Brody School of Medicine, often simultaneously. This position represents the SADAA and the BSOM with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Other tasks may include: keeping the official minutes of meetings, agenda preparations, and preparing presentation and slide presentations. The position is responsible for assisting with planning the department's operational budget, monitoring expenditures, and using independent discretion to move funds to cover negative balances. Further, the position is responsible for maintaining financial records and preparing complex expense reports, budgeting and grants administration, oversight of accounts reconciliation, maintenance and reporting of financial data, making financial projections, and personnel planning. This position will work closely with the Administrator of Academic Affairs.

Minimum Education/practice High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management practice; or Associate degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management practice; or Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and practice. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
