Primary Purpose of Department The Graduate School at UNC Charlotte fosters excellence in all dimensions of post baccalaureate studies and is the primary advocate for graduate education and for graduate students at the University. Established in 1985, the Graduate School offers 21 doctoral, 65 master's degree programs, and more than 30 graduate certificate programs in a wide variety of fields and specialties ranging from architecture, biomedical engineering, computing, engineering, and health administration to history, teacher education, creative writing, business, nursing and social work. The Graduate School has over 700 members of the Regular Graduate Faculty teaching and mentoring more than 5,500 graduate students who come from nearly every state in the union and from a variety of countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America.

Primary Purpose of Position The Director of Strategic Data Initiatives supervises the Graduate School's efforts to support graduate programs and graduate student success. The overarching goal of this position is to streamline and enhance a student's path to graduation, including the development of technical solutions that support degree auditing, coordination for DegreeWorks, and development of processes to bring greater transparency and support to student success. this function is primarily a project management function but requires familiarity with data analysis. The position has decision-making authority for the creation of technical solutions to processes, the collection and interpretation of data for process improvement, as well as consultation with faculty. Review of program-level data through the program review process is expected to generate improvement recommendations. The director is part of the Graduate School's leadership abilities team.

Summary of Position Responsibilities
   » Evaluation of Graduate School processes related to the success of graduate students. This includes the analysis of current processes and oversight for a new student success dashboard.
   » Review program curricula to ensure that they comply with university policy, as well as compliance with accreditation standards.
   » Collaborate with the college assessment directors to analyze and understand college-level data.
   » Assesses raw data and designs interpretive reporting to support decision-making at the program level;
   » supervises the development and functionality of DegreeWorks, including technical solutions, testing, and scribing, as needed.
   » Responsible for ensuring data integrity for graduate students, managing data for Data Mart, and working with Institutional Research to ensure the census is accurate.
   » Lead project to identify and develop a ?data dashboard? for graduate student success;
   » Manage and support new data-related projects, when appropriate.
   » Provides technical skills for systems, such as the academic petition system for graduate students.
   » Develop processes related to new initiatives, including for Early Entry or Dual Degree programs.
Minimum Education/practice
   » Associate degree or equivalent combination of practice.
   » At least three years of practice with data management, large data sets, process improvement, and project management.
Preferred Education, expertise, Skills and practice
   » Bachelor's degree in a policy or technical field.
   » Five years of practice with data management, analysis of large data sets, process improvement, and project management.
   » Advanced skills with Excel and similar systems.
   » Evidence of capability to translate technical issues for leadership abilities.
   » Evidence of a commitment to student success.
