Job Summary The College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences is seeking a Director for Education for the Center for Oldest Ice Exploration NSF Science and Technology Center. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

This position provides overall management of COLDEX educational programs including facilitating the logistics of programs delivered by partner institutions, working with COLDEX faculty to recruit students and post docs, leading the COLDEX research practice for undergraduates (REU) program, recruiting and supporting students and participants from diverse backgrounds, communicating with COLDEX participants about educational activities, working with the COLDEX evaluation team to track progress toward COLDEX educational goals, providing and facilitating mentorship for the COLDEX student and post doc community, and contributing to annual and other progress reports and to COLDEX meetings.

Key Responsibilities Lead all aspects of COLDEX REU program including recruiting, selection of final student cohort, matching students with advisors/labs, monitoring student progress, responding to problems, working with COLDEX staff to support student housing, travel, and stipend payments, developing and running remote summer training program for students (40%) .

Work with COLDEX educational evaluation team to track progress toward COLDEX educational goals (10%) .

Participate in strategic and other planning for COLDEX and serve on Executive Committee (10%).
Facilitate the logistics of COLDEX educational and professional development activities provided by COLDEX partners, including scheduling and organizing all on site activities at OSU or partner institutions (catering, housing, etc.) and working with COLDEX staff to administer participant travel and reimbursements. May include instructional opportunities (25%) .

Work with COLDEX faculty to recruit undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral researchers for positions in COLDEX (10%) .

Administer the yearly COLDEX Early Career Researcher Scholarship program, including management of applications and distribution of funds (5%)

What You Will Need
   » Master's degree in Earth Science, Geosciences, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related scientific discipline OR Bachelor's degree in Earth Science, Geosciences, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related scientific discipline in combination with at least two years post-degree research practice in Earth Science or related field.
   » Excellent written and oral communication expertise.
   » practice mentoring undergraduate research.
   » practice planning and delivering workshops or meetings.
   » practice recruiting students from diverse backgrounds.
   » Life practice(s), education, or training that broadens capacity to equalize student success or impact underserved audiences.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

   » Demonstrable capability to manage logistics across multiple programs, such as managing program budgets, securing housing and travel, inventorying materials, and coordinating remote meetings.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule Travel to annual and other STC meetings, other partner institutions, and academic and other conferences for recruiting, reporting on, and advertising COLDEX activities. Travel and response to student issues or concerns may involve weekend and after hours work. Possible field work in polar regions (not required).
