Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Equipment Systems Specialist (Cable Plant & Classroom Technician) competency level 1, position for University Information & Technology at Oregon State University (OSU).

This is a limited duration appointment expected to last approximately 12 months from the appointment begin date.

University Information & Technology (UIT) is a mission-driven, dynamic Information technology organization leading digital transformation at Oregon State University to achieve the university's ambitious goals of educating more students, making breakthrough discoveries in research, and expanding the university's outreach and service to Oregon and the world. UIT sets Information technology strategies for all OSU organizations and encompasses the central organization that manages Information technology operations for the university, including its three campuses and services that reach students worldwide.

The Cable Plant and Classroom Technician reports to the Cable Plant Manager in the UIT TSA Network & Telcom Team which is part of the Technical and Solutions Architecture (TSA) unit within Oregon State University's University Information & (UIT) division. This position shares and supports the University's mission by assisting the University to extend all programs, teachings, research, and communication all over the world. The services provided by UIT-TSA units, including Academic Technologies, Administrative Technologies, Infrastructure, Digital practice, Digital Research, and Network & Telecom Services, assist the University community by facilitating transmission of expertise and skills to its members, thereby enhancing their capability to be productive, valued, and esteemed members of the University community, serving the State of Oregon. Services are provided to students, faculty, and staff for curricular, research, intellectual, and administrative activities and needs, as well as to the wider Oregon higher education and government community. There are approximately 175 faculty and classified employees in UIT, as well as 150 FTE student positions. UIT administers a total budget of $35+ million.

This position functions within a team-located management environment and serves as a member of the Cable Plant team and works in conjunction with the Academic Technology team. This position is responsible for supporting technical management of the network cable plant infrastructure through comprehensive audit and inventory of the physical cabling that supports OSU's network and works with the Network and Academic Technologies Classroom Technology teams to configure and install AV systems and supporting network hardware in learning spaces and conference rooms, and provides technical support of the operations of all forms of audiovisual, video, and computer projection needs of faculty, staff and students at Oregon State University.

   » Inventory EF, MDF, IDF rooms and spaces
   » Update Netbox software documentation notes, customer contact info and photos of EF, MDF, IDF rooms and spaces.
   » Document EF, MDF, IDF room configurations.
   » Inventory and document Academic Technologies Learning Spaces Equipment, Update Netbox software documentation notes with details on learning space equipment and configurations.
   » Documents installations by creating and maintaining wiring diagrams and other pertinent information concerning system configuration and setup.
   » Tracks academic technologies equipment usage hours.
   » Maintains log of repairs and parts replacement for classroom and conference room technologies and uses this to maintain stock of replacement parts notifying manager when additional supplies are needed

40% - Equipment installation, configuration and troubleshooting, and maintenance
   » Assists in installation and configuration of AV and presentation systems for classrooms and other facilities at OSU and fabricates temporary systems for special events and remote productions.
   » Performs physical installations of AV equipment
   » Makes installations with regard to campus wiring policies and standards.
   » Perform rack and stack installations for OSU UIT NOC team.
   » Update switch management tool (OpenL2M) entries as required, updating VLAN & port documentation.
   » Determines appropriate cable routing for classroom and conference room installations.
   » Works with electricians and other trades to communicate specialized work for installations and/or repairs.
   » Uses software to integrate hardware and program AV control systems.
   » Troubleshoots control system designs and installations.
   » Modifies and upgrades systems to incorporate the latest technologies.
   » Tests equipment after installation and/or repair to ensure Information technology operates as specified.
   » Maintains audio/video and presentation technologies for OSU classrooms and facilities to ensure minimal disruption of classes and events.
   » Troubleshoots, makes repairs and assists in determining equipment replacement cycles for classroom and conference room equipment.
   » Installs and aligns equipment for proper operation of systems.
   » Monitors equipment for wear or obsolescence.
   » Works with vendors to diagnose equipment issues and makes repairs.
   » Communicates continuing issues to coworkers & manager for resolution.
   » Makes sure classroom technology software is configured to network to ensure connectivity with services outside classrooms or facilities.
   » Works with Information technology Support Specialist to determine proper desktop build for classroom computers.
   » Rebuilds classrooms computers to the standard build for classrooms.
   » Works with campus network engineers when necessary.
   » Trains users in the use of equipment and systems.
   » Maintains and tracks test equipment and hand tools to ensure their operation and availcapability when needed.
   » Installation and upgrading of various network related devices such as UPS Switches, Routers, etc. around campus
   » Patching, switch installations, occasional basic configuration of a variety of network gear around campus.

This classification requires a basic foundation of expertise and skills of equipment and systems that would normally be obtained through an associate of arts degree in electronics or industrial technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or directly related practice.

   » The person in this position will often be required to lift, push, and pull objects weighing up to 60lbs.
   » The person in this position will often be required to climb ladders to install equipment.
   » Incumbent must prosperously complete a DMV background check and be deemed fit for duty at placement and while serving in the position.
   » capability to physically be on-campus in Corvallis is a requirement

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a motor vehicle history check, possess, and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
