Darlington Arts Center

Darlington Arts Center (DAC) was founded in 1978 on the unique vision of including all four arts disciplines-music, visual arts, dance, and drama- in one space with an emphasis on multi-disciplinary programming. DAC has served the Delaware and Chester counties and Delaware State communities for over 40 years by fostering programs that provide possibilities and opportunities through the exploration of multi-disciplinary arts. DAC is committed to building, preserving and growing with the community we serve and the community of teaching artists. Our mission and core value is providing Every Art for Everyone!
DAC is seeking skilled artists who have at least one year of teaching practice in Guitar, for private instruction and group classes at the Center located at 977 Shavertown Road, Garnet Valley, PA 19060 from September 2024 to August 2025.
Our Academic School Year is from September 2024-June 2025 and our summer program is from June 2025- August 2025.
We are seeking to fill this position immediately. We are prioritizing individuals who are available on Mondays and during after-school hours.
Teaching Artists will:
Provide excellent instruction. Including:
Showing integrity in teaching methods and pedagogy
Helping parents understand the artistic process as well as the finished work that goes home
Inspiring student excitement and commitment to study
Treating students and parents with respect and kindness
Promote Darlington's mission and programs to students and parents
Keep an accurate teacher log book, which will serve as an invoice for services
Communicate with the office in a clear, consistent and timely manner. Including:
Promptly notifying the Program Manager of any schedule changes
Responding to phone and email messages within 48 hours
Recommend exceptional students and those in need for scholarships
Submit PA child abuse clearance, criminal records check and FBI clearance (must be within 5 years of 12/31/2023)
Distribute communications to families as provided by the administrative office

We evaluate performance using the following metrics:
Consistent, Prompt Attendance
Student and Parent satisfaction (collected verbally and through bi-annual surveys)
Student Retention (across all DAC activities)
Student demonstration of improved capability and expertise (as evidenced in their completed work)
Observation (classes may be observed by the Executive Director or her designee)
Staff Feedback (regarding regular communication and accurate teacher log)
Additional Skills and practice (Preferred)
Suzuki Certified
Has 1-2 years of teaching practice of ages 4-6
Has or interested in teaching group classes for all ages that span various genres
Has practice in teaching jazz and/or contemporary musical style
Has practice or interest in teaching music technology or modern techniques as Information technology relates to guitar
Compensation
This position is a 1099 contracted employee. Darlington hours of operations are from 9 am to 9pm, Monday-Friday and 9am to 4pm on Saturdays during the Academic Year and 9am to 9pm Monday-Wednesday, and 9am to 5pm Thursday-Friday during the summer season. Viable candidates will set their preferred hours within the above hours of operations. Starting hourly rate is $35.00, however is negotiable located on practice and skills.
