The Athletics Department is seeking a Baseball Development Coach. This is a part-time (0.60 FTE),12-month, professional faculty position.

The mission of the OSU Department of Athletics is to Go Build Excellent, Authentic, Visionary Student-Athletes (GO B.E.A.V.S.). This position reports directly to the Head Baseball Coach and provides professional-level support to the OSU Baseball program. Assists the Head Coach in the organization, administration and promotion of Oregon State Baseball Camps and Clinics. Coaching includes instruction, program management for the specific areas assigned and preparation of recommendations to the Head Coach. Builds relationships with alumni, OSU partners and community resources and establishments. Adhere to the policies set forth by direct managers, Head Coach and Athletic Director, as well as Oregon State University, the PAC-12 Conference and The National Collegiate Athletic Association.

The purpose of this function is primarily located on three parts: a main focus on mental skill work, teaching and instruction with student athletes and coaches, alumni communication and engagement, and baseball camps and clinics. The position will also handle day to day practice tasks of throwing batting practice and hitting to players.

Key Responsibilities Teaching and Coaching: 60%
   » Teach individuals and groups of players specific tasks and expertise before, during and after practice, during season and off-season such as teaching progressions and drills during everyday practice time.
   » Makes themselves available to coaches and players before, during and after practices, games, and events.
   » Focus on the mental strategies and techniques of sport/baseball providing activities/exercises and leading sessions on the topic
   » Encourage and participate in activities that foster an environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and fosters a sense of belonging for both student athletes and colleagues in alignment with the OSU Diversity Action Plan and Athletics specific diversity goals and expectations.

Camps and Clinics Administration and Instruction/Teaching: 20%
   » Manage all aspects of OSU Baseball Camps, which includes the management of camp budgets, payroll processes, and personnel decisions.
   » Provide leadership abilities, supervision, and direction to assigned staff.
   » Plan, assign, and review work, establish goals for each reporting employee and assess performance through completion of evaluations.
   » Hire, train, promote employees. Discipline, or effectively recommend discipline, up to and including dismissal. Address grievance and develop a framework for corrective actions as necessary.
   » Provide supervision, leadership abilities, and guidance to youth, under 18 years of age, as part of a Youth Program and camps.
   » Provide Camp Plans and teach all aspects of Baseball

Alumni Outreach and Fundraising: 20%
   » Assist in the formulation of team and department fundraising activities and promotional events.
   » Interact with various campus offices, departments, and individual faculty and staff members.
   » Maintain effective and open communication with OSU faculty as necessary.
   » Serve in a leadership abilities function and promote the participation of student athletes in community service activities.
What You Will Need
   » Bachelors degree in field of choice
   » 2 years demonstrated success in NCAA Collegiate coaching or playing practice
   » Previous baseball athletics operational practice.
   » capability to work in a stressful, fast-paced environment.
   » Affinity for attention to detail.
   » capability and availcapability to work on weekends and during evenings with a schedule that will vary according to the camp schedule.
   » capability to lift/carry/push/pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
   » capability to work around flying objects (baseballs) and moving objects (swinging bats).
   » capability to assist in demonstrations/drills which may include: squatting, twisting and/or throwing.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

What We Would Like You to Have
Working Conditions / Work Schedule Evenings and Weekends occasionally will be times of work. Plenty of travel especially in the season of competition. Working outdoors everyday for practice but will be indoors often for office work.
