Job Opportunity: Chief Engineer:Nebraska Public MediaJob description: Chief Engineer Listing description Listing description Responsible for the administration of a major statewide network unit such as the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Commission Network Operations (NETC) Network Operation Center, Master Control Center, Media Operations Center and related studios and equipment facilities. Coordinates, schedules, plans and assumes operational responsibility for those areas; Also works with Network Operations Support groups in support in their areas of responsibility; performs related work as assigned. · Responsible for the Day-to-Day Management, Supervision and Engineering of the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Commission (NETC) Network Operations. This includes technical systems design, infrastructure planning, procurement, installation, integration, documentation and training for all analog and digital broadcast and non-broadcast technical systems. · Responsible for establishing, monitoring, and documenting operating standards, testing procedures, and quality control for transmissions, satellites, broadcast television, non-broadcast television and distance learning systems and data networks. · Responsible for direct administration and maintenance of all satellite and terrestrial encoding and multiplexing systems. · Direct Administrator of the NETC Network Management Control System used for Monitor and Control of all NETC terrestrial broadcast sites, teleports, and control rooms; and the PBS-DDMS. · Assist with the development, deployment, management, and administration of the Network Operations engineering operating and capital budgets, capital equipment purchases, and procurement. · Team leader for the NETC Broadcast Information Technology Engineering staff. · Chief system architect responsible for infrastructure design, integration and engineering for the distribution of the NETC retransmissions signals for the State of Nebraska statewide radio and television broadcast transmissions systems. · Team leader and administrator responsible for working with NETC departments and support groups in the on-going development, design, installation, integration, deployment, documentation, training, and operation of the NETC Digital Asset Management System and file-located workflow. · Direct Point-of-Contact for NETC with the PBS Engineering and Operations teams in Washington D.C. for the express purpose of the design, development, installation, integration, operation, and training for the Public Broadcast Systems Disaster, Diversity, Maintenance Site (PBS-DDMS), located within the NETC facility. · Outline equipment tests to be made by those under direct supervision to ensure compliance with FCC rules and regulations as well as EIA industry standards. · Supervise and participate in the operation of studio production and/or transmitting equipment. · Provide for the maintenance of records and inventories of data from transmitters and equipment performance measurements for status analysis. · Ensure proper station identification, standard equipment operation and professional standards of workmanship for engineers and technicians supervised. · Schedule everyday work shifts, maintenance shifts, vacation, and sick leave. · Prepare and organize engineering records, systems design, component parts inventories as well as equipment proof-of-performance data for submission to senior network engineering management. · Train engineers and technicians in aligning transmitters and transmission equipment, video/audio/digital duplication and playback machines, manual and automatic video/audio/digital switching gear, terminal equipment and microwave apparatus. · Conduct research on technical systems, and projects. Assist in locating appropriate vendors and products for given projects. Prepares cost comparison from various vendors and provides raw data for cost and performance analysis. · Conduct equipment research, specification, and price comparison for NETC. Assist with technical aspects of purchasing documents when applicable. Assist in creating bid specifications and assist with the evaluation process working with State of Nebraska Department of Administrative Services Material Division. Requirements/Appropriate qualifications: Minimum Appropriate qualifications: High school education or equivalent plus six years' practice in broadcasting electronics - television, radio, cable, satellite, and OTT operations; preferably including varied broadcast areas involving both operational and maintenance practice. Bachelor's degree in electronic engineering can substitute for four years' practice. practice should include at least one year in a managery capacity. Must possess FCC Radiotelephone Operator's License/Permit. income starting at $26.846/hour. income will be commensurate with education and practice.
