Job Summary The Department of Public Safety is seeking up to 3 Campus Public Safety agents. These are full-time (1.00FTE), 12-month, public safety professional positions.

The purpose of this position is to:
   » Provide security for buildings, persons, and property on Oregon State University campus.
   » Provide student and staff escorts, assists, information, and general assistance to the university community and the general public.
   » Provide vehicular, bicycle, and foot patrol of grounds to protect property and deter crime.
   » Receive and refer reports of criminal incidents to campus law enforcement personnel for investigation.
   » Provide campus crime avoidance services for the university in coordination with campus law enforcement personnel.
   » Provide public safety services that are fair, unbiased, and respectful of all individuals, regardless of their background.
   » Enforce university rules and regulations

Key Responsibilities 45% Security Patrol Services
   » Patrol parking lots, buildings, and grounds; report criminal activities as observed to campus law enforcement personnel for investigation. Provide building access.
   » Patrol inside buildings to ensure no unauthorized persons remain inside and no doors or windows are left unsecured. Check persons in buildings for faculty or staff ID or student after-hours passes as appropriate, find unauthorized persons and escort from building.
   » Report any suspicious persons or circumstances found in buildings and on university property.

45% Public Safety Services
   » Enforce all university rules and regulations within guidelines and limitations established by the university and public safety administration.
   » Impound abandoned bicycles on campus.
   » Provide safe student and staff escorts on campus; render assistance to students, staff, faculty, and visitors as requested. Perform unlocks of buildings when required and motorist assists (jump-starts).
   » Perform any other tasks as may be assigned by a manager.
   » Provide special security of Radiation Center and other buildings under contract.
   » Respond to calls for service for assistance including but not limited to minor criminal investigations, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and accidents.
   » Provide transports for students with minor injuries and illnesses to the Student Health Center. Assist as needed with ambulance calls and medical assists within scope of training.
   » Write factual reports on security and accident incidents on campus.
   » Report all risk management problems noted while on patrol.

10% General Public Safety Assistance
   » Assist campus law enforcement personnel in presentation of crime avoidance programs and projects on campus. Perform security audits for departments and buildings on request.
   » Participate in quality and continuous improvement activities as an integral part of the Department of Public Safety positions. All employees are expected to exercise good customer service communication expertise. Actively participate in orientation and committee activities as required.
   » Attend required training to maintain department standards in job related tasks
What You Will Need
   » Must be able to follow policies and directives;
   » Must be able to critically think and solve problems;
   » Must be willing and able to work in a professional manner to embrace and promote diversity;
   » Must be able to speak clearly and to be understood using a two-way radio system;
   » Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
   » Must be willing to attend and prosperously complete work-related training if offered;
   » Must prosperously pass a comprehensive background assessment that includes: criminal history check; driving record review; medical examination; psychological evaluation; drug screening; and an inclusive appraisal of work history;

Nuclear Regulatory Commission, 10 CFR 73.2 (a)(1) defines a background check as: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) criminal history records check (including verification of identity located on fingerprinting), employment history, education, and personal references. Individuals engaged in activities subject to regulation by the commission in writing of an intent to file an application for licensing, certification, permitting, or approval of a product or activity subject to regulation by the Commission are required under 73.57 to conduct fingerprinting and criminal history records checks before granting access to Safeguard Information. A background check must be sufficient to support the trustworthiness and relicapability determination so that the person performing the check and the Commission have assurance that granting individuals' access to Safeguards Information does not constitute an unreasonable risk to the public health and safety or the common defense and security.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

What We Would Like You to Have
   » One year of full-time (or full-time equivalent) practice in a security, military or similar position in which contemporary expertise and techniques in security and property protection were applied.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
   » Work outside in various weather conditions. Vehicle patrol, foot patrol, bicycle patrol.
   » Must be able to work any shift, any day, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
   » Required to wear department designated uniforms and equipment while on duty.
   » May be required to work extended hours due to emergency situations or increased workload on a temporary basis
   » Must be able to walk/stand for extended periods of time.
   » This position is deemed essential and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other university work curtailments or closures.
   » The incumbent is expected to check in with their direct manager or unit leadership abilities everyday during university delays or closures to determine if they are required to report to work.
