Employment Job Category: Clerical/Support Regular/Temporary: Regular If temporary, list duration: Type of Appointment: Fiscal Contract Period: 12 month Position Summary Information Position Summary: The Police agent works under general supervision of a shift or operations manager and the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Campus Police. The Police agent is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure campus environment; and the enforcement of University policies, state and local laws. The selected applicant will initially be hired as a Security Guard 2 if all Police agent Standard and Training pre-employment requirements are not met at the time of employment. The selected applicant will be hired as a Police agent 1 if all Police agent Standard and Training pre-employment requirements are met at the time of employment. Academy graduation and subsequent certification is a condition for continued employment. The probationary period for new agents is 6 months. Guards/agents sign a contract addendum agreeing to repay all connected, initial training costs if they resign within two years of the academy graduation date. Primary tasks and Job responsibilities: » Crime avoidance, campus patrol, radio communications, parking and traffic enforcement, criminal investigations and follow-up, and report writing. » Provide protection for University persons, property, and guests. » Maintain surveillance of all areas within department jurisdiction. » Identify and report hazards to safety and security of the campus. » Interact with other law enforcement agencies when appropriate. » Perform other job-related tasks as assigned. expertise, expertise, and Abilities: » capability to recognize safety and security hazards on campus and take appropriate corrective action. » capability to operate a vehicle. » capability to work any shift. » capability to execute security and police tasks on bicycle patrol. » capability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. » capability to provide protection and apply law enforcement procedures in a safe and proper manner. » capability to ascertain facts through personal contact, observation, and examination of records. » capability to pass annual weapon qualification to meet P.O.S.T. certification. » capability to see, hear, and communicate effectively, especially with students and visitors to the campus. » capability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public Physical Requirements: » capability to pursue suspects/suspicious individuals on foot, through University buildings, grounds and make arrests as needed. » capability to run, jump, and physically restrain an individual as needed to make arrest. Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: » Required to be 21 years of age or older. » Must be a U.S. citizen. » High school graduate or equivalent. » Must have no criminal convictions. » Must pass a psychological examination. » Must pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the University. » Must pass a physical examination by a licensed physician at the candidate's own expense. » Valid driver's license. » Must have a telephone for emergency recall by department. » Essential employee will be required to report to work during emergency or disaster situations.
