Internship -Student Reporting Labs, Communications
Part time, non-exempt. $15.00/hr.
Fall 2024 (September 9 - December 13)
Reports to: Director, Communications
Location: Remote/Hybrid
Description of Intern Work Responsibilities/Projects:
   »Reviewing,formatting and uploadingemail newsletter communications
   »Draftingannouncements, recaps, and/or blog posts for the SRL website
   »Researchingprospective partners, collaborators, media distributors, etc.
   »Reportingon SRL's internal metrics as needed
   »Collaboratingwith SRL staff to brainstorm and support new ideas, projects, and goal
   »Supportingin-person SRL summer training events for students and educators as needed
   »Assistingwith special projects and other tasks as assigned
Learning Objectives:
   »Skill development:Gain practical practice in the fields of communication, journalism, and public media
   »knowledge real-world application:Develop a greater knowledge about nonprofit media communication strategies, tools, and workflows
   »Personal Professional Development:Grow communication expertise and contribute to team projects while working in a in a professional environment to support journalism capacity-building for high school students and educators
Specific expertise Required:
   » Excellent writing, copy editing, and interpersonal communication expertise
   » Creative mindset
   » Excellent organizational and time management expertise, with careful attention to detail
   » Excellent tech platform expertise: you feel comfortable learning new systems and are open to using Zoom, Google drive, Slack, AirTable, Outlook, MailChimp, and Canva
   » Demonstrated capability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment
   » Curiosity and enthusiasm for journalism, youth engagement, and public media
   » An interest in nonprofit communication, events, project management, etc.
Preferred Major:Journalism, Communications/Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or related field
Job location:
WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce located out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions located in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the function.
