Job Summary/Basic Function: About this function:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Lamar University invites applications for a tenure-track adjunct professor position in the area of thermal/fluid science. The tasks of this position will include teaching a range of undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising graduate and undergraduate student research, and undertaking an active, funded research program.

Teaching: Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering, aligned with the department's curriculum and learning objectives. Provide effective instruction, mentorship, and academic advising to students. Employ innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance student learning results.

Research: Establish and lead an independent, externally funded research program in an area of mechanical engineering. Conduct high-impact research, publish scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals, and present findings at national and international conferences. Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and pursue partnerships with industry and government agencies.

Service: Contribute to departmental, university, and professional activities, including committee assignments, curriculum development, accreditation processes, and outreach initiatives. Participate in academic governance, engage in community service, and represent the department at professional conferences and events.

Physical Requirements:
   » Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to execute a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & practice):
   » Undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees from an accredited university in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
   » Excellent oral and written communication skills.
   » A strong record of research and publications.
Preferred Qualifications (Education & practice):
   » Three years of industry practice and/or prior teaching practice
practice of proposal writing and funded research as principal investigator (PI)
