The school currently enrolls more than 500 students in twelve areas across three degrees. The School of Art and Design is the largest BFA art program in the University of North Carolina system and has been continuously accredited by NASAD since 1962. The school has 35 full-time faculty and is located in the Jenkins Fine Arts Center, a 142,000 square-foot facility with specialized equipment, tools, and technology for the School of Art and Design's 14 disciplines-animation/ interactive design, art education, art history, ceramics, film and video production, glass, graphic design, illustration, metal design, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textile design. From computer labs, digital looms, CNC router, and laser cutters to a woodshop, foundry, letterpress shop, black and white darkroom, and beyond, the school's facilities are comprehensive and available to faculty and students who think, make, and work across the school's disciplines. Job tasks The School of Art and Design at East Carolina University seeks nine-month, Teaching adjunct Professor who will serve at the First Year Coordinator and teach first year and/or shared practice coursework . The position is defined broadly within the School of Art and Design and will teach 3 three-credit ART studio courses per semester. The equivalent of one three-credit course per semester will be devoted to coordinating the first year curriculum, instructors, and support services to contribute to first year student and instructor success. This position will mentor first year students; engage with other faculty regularly; participate in departmental activities, such as recruiting; engage in opportunities for curricular and course development that reflect their skills and professional practice; and participate in service to the School, College, University and community; and other activities as appropriate. Position tasks will include: » Coordinate, call, and run meetings with all first year shared practice instructors (20), which includes graduate student instructors of record. » Coordinate team-taught sections through regular communication with team members, ensuring module switch meetings occur, and address issues that arise. » supervise facilities, supplies, and students (~140) enrolled in first year shared practice courses. » Coordinate supply lists for courses and manage the first year/shared practice supply closet. » Provide twice-weekly drop-in art tutoring to first year students . » Support students by serving as an additional resources for first year students. » Meet with the First Year Committee to discuss curricular changes, provide insights and information. Minimum Education/practice Minimum Qualification (candidates must have): » Terminal degree (MFA or equivalent) in art or design in one of the following fields: animation/interactive design, ceramics, film and video production, graphic design, illustration, metal design, printmaking, photography, painting/drawing, textile design, or sculpture » Evidence of potential for program coordination » Strong communication and collaboration skills.
