Job Summary The College of Business is seeking an Art Director. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Art Director is responsible for enhancing and building the brand image of the College of Business through creative communications. This position provides strategic visual brand direction and leads the overall development of creative concepts and materials to recruit students to the College, engage alumni, donors, volunteers and companies with the College and advance the College's reputation locally and regionally. The Director produces visual communication pieces and ensures all communications pieces produced in the College support the overall strategy and visual identity of the College of Business and the institution.

The Oregon State University College of Business is a dynamic and fast-paced working environment, and our marketing and communication team is a small group of hard-working and collaborative colleagues.

The Art Director plays a crucial function in visually communicating the College of Business mission. The work will help showcase how the future of business is being crafted by integrating advanced technologies, building broad partnerships, and empowering students to lead with high ethical standards. Through creative efforts, the Art Director will support the commitment to sustainable and socially responsible solutions, and help communicate research that tackles economic and societal challenges and fosters shared prosperity.

Key Responsibilities 45% Visual Communication Direction
Provides overall creative leadership abilities and strategy for the College of Business visual communication efforts, ensuring that all materials and strategies are inclusive and reflective of the diverse community served by the College. Assesses the College of Business' brand and develops strategic and creative visual communication concepts and materials to recruit a diverse student body to the College, engage alumni, donors, volunteers and companies with the College and advance the College's reputation locally and regionally.

Visual communication oversight responsibilities include:
   » Ensure all visual communications align with and promote the College's mission, values, and commitment to sustaincapability and social responsibility.
   » Collaborate across departments to visually represent the College's broad partnerships and innovative approaches to business education.
   » Develops, implements, and evaluates short- and long-term goals, objectives and projects of visual communications and marketing in the College of Business.
   » Produces or supervises the production of all types of communication collateral.
   » supervises development and dissemination of the College's graphic identity system and brand.
   » Provides OSU brand guidance and leadership abilities to COB communicators and designers, student clubs, and internal units, ensuring consistency all over all communication materials produced by the college.
   » Advises Director of Marketing on art and design.
   » Consults with departments and faculty members on project needs and presents design concepts.
   » supervises the design and production of all visual communication projects produced by the College.
   » Develops, manages and reports on the budget including consulting with leadership abilities on budget resources and status updates.
   » As part of the College's marketing and communication team, develops marketing strategy and campaigns, providing guidance on messaging and accompanying graphics.
   » supervises execution of overall visual branding for the college.

40% Design and Production
Designs and produces creative concepts in response to College needs, including:
   » Using a design-thinking approach for the creative process, assess and analyze the print and digital design needs that will address the needs of the business, client, and diverse audiences.
   » Coordinates print design and web design to ensure the graphic style of the university are met.
   » Designs, illustrates and prepares creative concepts using a variety of media (print, web, exhibits) that may take the shape of websites and pages, emails, digital ads, brochures, annual reports, posters, flyers, letterheads, logos, certificates, forms, and other newsletters and publications.
   » Prepares printing specifications for the print shop; obtains bids from vendors and OSU Printing & Mailing, and recommends contract awards; maintains contact with vendors, designers, and printers to ensure adherence to time schedules, and specifications.
   » Writes and approves print and digital production specifications.
   » Coordinates production; proofs typesetting and printing for adherence to specifications; determines if quality standards have been met.

15% Supervision
   » Provides leadership abilities, supervision, and direction for the adjunct Art Director and student employees, fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment. Plans, assigns and reviews work, establishes goals and assesses performance through completion of evaluations; hires, trains, promotes employees, ensuring a diverse pool of candidates; disciplines or effectively recommends discipline up to and including dismissal; and addresses grievances, developing a framework for corrective actions as necessary.
   » Supports student employees' learning by teaching graphic design best practices, visual branding strategies, and the importance of DEI in creative practices.
   » Coordinate and manage the work of vendors to prosperously complete projects.
   » Hires and monitors freelance photographers, illustrators, and print and web designers as needed, coordinating with project managers on concepts and providing art direction. As needed, drive a personal vehicle to photo/video shoots.
What You Will Need
   » Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Graphic Design, Interactive Design, Web Development or a related field AND eight years of practice in graphic design and/or website design.
   » Portfolio demonstrating high-quality, innovative design work and effective visual communication of complex ideas.
   » Two years of managery practice, showcasing team development and collaborative project management skills.
   » Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, and skills in UI/UX design principles.
   » Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through design work and professional activities.
   » Strong project management skills, including the capability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines consistently.
   » Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to articulate design concepts to diverse audiences.
   » practice developing and implementing strategic visual communication concepts aligned with organizational goals.
   » Evidence of continuous professional development and staying current with design trends and technologies.
   » Knowledge of printing procedures and requirements

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule This position may be located in Corvallis or in Portland, OR. Hybrid and/or remote work may be possible, as agreed upon by the employee and manager. Regardless of primary work location, travel to the Corvallis campus and/or Portland to participate in meetings will be expected.
