Position Summary The Port Orford Field Station is seeking a student worker to lead summer dive operations out of the field station. The student would work with researchers to plan and execute research dives and intertidal surveys. The position will primary be the planning organization and execution of dive plans in conformity with osu diving safety and small boat safety protocols. Including but not limited to, submitting dive and float plans, preparing gear, coordinating with boat captain, filling SCUBA tanks, as well data collection and analysis. The Student will be leading a team made up of two REU students, and will report to Tom Calvanese.

   » Filling SCUBA Tanks
   » Coordinating with boat captain
   » Conducting intertidal surveys
   » Creating dive and float plans
   » Data collection on SCUBA
   » Leading dive team
   » Deployment and service of underwater cameras
20% Data organization and Analysis
   » Compiling raw data into spreadsheets
   » Analysis of intertidal and SCUBA survey data

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

   » AAUS Scientific Diver certified
   » Familiarity with Port Orford dive sites
   » Comfortable diving from small boats in cold water
   » Strong leadership abilities expertise
   » knowledge of OSU diving and boating protocols
   » capability to trailer boat

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
   » practice living and working in small communities
   » Basic Knowledge of small engine use and maintenance
