This position is responsible for the day-to-day management and direction of Read by 4th. Over the course of the fiscal year 2024, our partners engaged in a strategy review process which resulted in the development of a Common Agenda and a set of principles that guide the collective work of Read by 4th. The Campaign Director will be responsible for convening and facilitating partners and managing staff toward the implementation of the strategies articulated in the Common Agenda. The Campaign Director will have four direct reports and additional outside consultants to support the implementation of the various strategies. The position is full-time, exempt, and will report to the VP of Strategic Partnerships and Public Programs.
About Read by 4th:
Read by 4th is Philadelphia's citywide early literacy movement, including an ever-growing coalition of passionate volunteers and organizational partners working to protect every child's right to read. Our partners work to advance change by connecting families with resources, mobilizing communities and advocating for just systems that put children on the path to reading success.
The Read by 4th coalition is supported by a small backbone team located at the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation. The function of backbone staff includes convening and aligning partners, gathering and sharing data to inform strategy and continuous learning, communications to share resources and to celebrate partners, and other efforts to build an impactful citywide movement.
Responsibilities will include:
Strategy:
Lead execution of the Read by 4th Common Agenda and other recommendations developed during the recently-completed strategy refresh process.
Build and maintain partnerships with key organizations and systems to identify needs and opportunities and inform future initiatives.
Partnerships and Convening:
Facilitate all Read by 4th working groups in collaboration with partner co-chairs.
Attend and support other Read by 4th convenings including the Steering Committee, Funders Roundtable, and Learning Circles.
Management and Supervision:
Manage Read by 4th staff members, including the Director of Community Engagement, Director of Communications, Operations Manager, and Partner practice Coordinator (to begin after a 30-day onboarding period).
Develop and manage expenses of an annual budget of approximately $1.5M.
Fundraising and Resource Development:
In collaboration with the Development department, provide draft content and guidance to aid in the development of grant and other funding proposals and reports
Foster a culture of philanthropy mindset, actively engaging in fundraising efforts organized or attended by staff, and promoting the organization's mission and values in and outside the organization including but not limited to supporting the mission of the Foundation by promoting membership and promoting and attending events when appropriate.
Strong candidates will demonstrate the following:
Excellent facilitation expertise with capability to collaborate significantly with diverse stakeholders
Track record of managing complex projects with multiple partners
Excellent management expertise with the capability to set clear goals and expectations, support and coach staff, and support team members' professional development
Familiarity with Philadelphia neighborhoods a plus
Familiarity with the Philadelphia education and non-profit landscape and/or members of the Read by 4th partner network a plus
Fluency in more than one language a plus, particularly Spanish
Background and/or familiarity with early literacy and science of reading a plus
Background and/or familiarity with collective impact a plus
Special conditions:
This is currently a hybrid position with three days per week in the office encouraged (Tuesdays and Wednesdays required, plus third day of your choice). This policy is subject to change.
Occasional travel within the Philadelphia area is required to attend meetings and partner events.
Occasional evening and weekend hours are required to attend meetings and partner events.

The Foundation is instrumental in raising capital funds through private sources for the renovation and improvement of Parkway Central Library and several of the neighborhood libraries.
