The School of Architecture at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa (UH Manoa) seeks to hire a dynamic and accomplished full-time tenure-track adjunct Professor with practice in architectural design, building technology, and construction. The school seeks candidates who can demonstrate a high degree of practical and technical skills with an emphasis on building materials, construction processes, building systems integration, the application of building codes, and management or administration of construction projects. A research focus on architectural technology or applied research in alternative construction sciences or ecological design significant to the Pacific Islands context is desirable. Candidates with a practical background in building construction, contracting, design/build, and /or hands-on fabrication projects are encouraged to apply. This appointment will begin in Fall 2025 and will be filled at the rank of adjunct Professor.

Environmental Design (BEnvD) degree, a LAAB-accredited Master of
Landscape Architecture (MLA) degree, a Master of Architecture (MArch)
degree, and a NAAB-accredited Doctor of Architecture (DArch) degree. The school is situated in a unique institutional context recognized for its
Asia-Pacific, Hawai'i, and urban ecological design research, emphasizing the distinct social and environmental requirements and technical challenges of tropical environments. Ample opportunities exist for robust interdisciplinary research collaboration with faculty from Engineering, Natural Sciences, Urban Planning, and other disciplines. The School of Architecture places emphasis on both theory and practice among its strategic priorities, which address regional and tropical issues as instructive models for complex global problems.
tasks and Responsibilities
This full-time, 9-month faculty position at the rank of adjunct Professor includes responsibilities for teaching, research, creative work, thesis advising, and service. The prosperous candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses focused on architecture and building technology in support of the School's existing curriculum.
The school seeks candidates who will complement the competencies of the faculty at the School of Architecture, able to contribute to all SoA programs and willing to serve in future leadership abilities functions. Candidates will be encouraged to work toward future interdisciplinary collaborations with significant departments and programs including but not limited to engineering, planning, sustaincapability, and resilience studies. Candidates will also support the school in exploring future opportunities for certificates, programs, and degrees.
Minimum Qualifications
   » Candidates must have a minimum of a professional Master of Architecture (MArch) degree or a graduate degree significant to the position.
   » Information technology is expected that candidates will have professional practice in construction.
   » Documentation of a professional license to practice architecture, landscape architecture, or engineering is required before application for tenure for those candidates who do not hold a PhD.
   » candidates must demonstrate excellent design, communication, and collaboration skills.
   » The capability to maintain a vigorous program of research and/or creative work.
   » The potential to advance their discipline(s).
   » A commitment to applied design inquiry and impact, and teaching with a demonstratedexpertise of both seminars and architectural design studios.
Desired Qualifications
   » The school especially welcomes candidates with practice in professional practice and a body of work demonstrating design excellence.
   » Preference will be given to candidates with an established record of teaching integrated or advanced design studios, design/build, building science, structures, construction management or construction administration.
