Job Summary/Basic Function:
This position serves to manage reporters from multiple stations across multiple states, the editor will manage content from member stations around the Mountain West.
This position may have the opportunity to work remotely where all work is performed from an alternative work location outside of Idaho.

Department Overview:

The Mountain West News Bureau was founded by Boise State Public Radio. Information technology is a news collaboration of public media stations, serving Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Our mission is to tell stories about the people, places and issues across the Mountain West. We explore topics such as land and water management, the growth of its cities, Western culture and heritage, rural-urban divides, and the impact of climate, especially on tribal communities.

Boise State Public Radio is Idaho's largest nonprofit, listener-supported NPR member station, reaching the region's metropolitan and rural areas. As primary sources of quality public radio news, classical music, and jazz, our radio stations are distinct in their mission, their audience, and their partnerships.

Level Scope:
Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Manages practiced professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountcapability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and campus wide goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate managers and professionals adhere to defined internal controls with a focus on policy and strategy implementation. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets and requires practical expertise in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects and tactics within one area.

Essential Functions:
60% of the time the Managing Editor, Radio must:
? Generates and approves story ideas that focus on a wide variety of issues all over the mountain west. Work with reporters to create strong regional angles that are significant to all the member stations.
? Assigns and edits stories, coordinates coverage, for radio and web for a team of reporters from several states, some of whom will rotate. superviseing social media accounts and posts.
? Works with managing editors from several public media stations to ensure timely delivery of content, including audio, digital and, on occasion, multimedia content and other content.
? Coordinates coverage among related partners at other public media stations and news outlets.
? Keeps reporters on track, meeting their content expectations. Holds weekly conference calls with the reporting team.
? Serves as a resource for talk shows, including identifying sources and opportunities for additional coverage, conducting two-ways and interviews, and appearing as a guest.
? May supervise the work of interns.
? Participates in assigned fund-raising and outreach activities, on air and off. Participates in and helps create community engagement events.

35% of the time the Managing Editor, Radio must:
? Leads a team of a half-dozen reporters across the intermountain west for the Mountain West News Bureau (MWNB) - a Regional Journalism. ? Collaboration (RJC) covering news and issues.
? Manages relationships with about 6 partner public radio stations in several mountain west states, and additional affiliate stations.
? Assigns, edits, and guides the editorial process for the RJC.
? Assists BSPR General Manager with management of grants funding activities of the MWNB.
? Direct manager for the MWNB Regional Reporter located at Boise State Public Radio, serving Idaho.
? Manage MWNB budget.
? Communicates well with news directors at partner stations and helps to coordinate coverage among related partners.
? Coordinate with the Business Office staff at Boise State Public Radio for a majority of MWNB expenses including but not limited to hiring, travel, purchases, etc.
? Work with partners Native Public Media and Koahnic Broadcasting on the execution and development of a weekly news segment for tribal stations.
? Files reports for radio and web as needed.
? Participates in and helps create community engagement events.

5% of the time the Managing Editor, Radio will perform other tasks as needed.
