Employment Job Category: Clerical/Support Regular/Temporary: Regular If temporary, list duration: Type of Appointment: Fiscal Contract Period: 12 month Position Summary Information Position Summary: The Building Systems Controls Technician is responsible for installing, programming, testing, calibrating, operating, and repair of control systems along with their related software, hardware, and equipment. These systems control and monitor air handlers, pumps, valves, temperature sensors, pressure sensors, boilers, chillers, and other heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and components. Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN. Primary tasks and Job responsibilities: » Analyze BMS system malfunctions and determine appropriate repairs » Read and interpret mechanical and control system drawings to aid in troubleshooting controls problems. » Diagnose and resolve technical problems related to control and monitoring systems and perform needed repairs. » Test and calibrate system devices to ensure functional relicapability of operating/monitoring system. » Maintain operator work stations, including creating/updating graphics, maintaining a point database, and maintaining communications infrastructure. » Add/modify BMS alarms for critical equipment » Program control systems using appropriate system program language for proper sequences of operations and operating schedules » Perform everyday system administration of several software applications for building control systems. » Monitor and control HVAC equipment, set schedules and define energy saving practices on campus. » Perform upgrades and modifications to system software and building automation system equipment at the application and equipment level » Work closely with campus HVAC, plumbing and electrical services personnel » Uses tools such as pressure and temperature gauges, volt-ohm meters, manometers, and other basic test equipment » Perform preventative maintenance procedures on HVAC pneumatic, electric, electronic, and DDC control systems; diagnose control problems and overhaul, either individually or as part of a team, various building pneumatic, electric, electronic, and DDC control systems. » Perform other tasks as assigned. expertise, expertise, and Abilities: » capability to communicate effectively and appropriately. » capability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. » capability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public. » capability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. » capability to prosperously complete assignments using appropriate methods, materials, tools and equipment in maintenance work as described above. » capability to recognize occupational hazards and take appropriate safety precautions. » capability to follow instructions. » capability to drive light motor vehicle. » capability to maintain accurate records. » capability to execute light to heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under some unfavorable climatic conditions. » capability to work overtime as required. » capability to work in an on-call capacity and inclement weather tasks. Physical Requirements: » Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. » Bending, twisting and lifting weights to 100lbs. » Heights and working on elevations of 60 feet. » Work off ladders and lifts. Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: » High school graduate or equivalent. » A minimum of two (2) years of practice programming, installing and/or maintaining building/plant control systems and their related equipment. » Related vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate (month for month) for the required practice. » practice with computer-operated automated building management systems (BMS). » practice with desktop computer applications (word processing and spreadsheets). » Essential employee- May be subject to after hours call out for emergencies. » Valid driver's license. » A background check will be required of the prosperous applicant.
