Job Summary The Office of the Provost is seeking a Director, Faculty Senate Operations. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Director of Faculty Senate Operations ensures that Faculty Senate administrative operations are effective, consistent and efficient. The Director emphasizes continual improvement in FS processes and communications, adopting new practices and technology as need evolves. The Director collaborates freely with the Office of the Provost, University Information & Technology and other university partners to build relationships and effectively use the Faculty Senate's budgetary and people-related resources. The Director is an expert on Faculty Senate activities and policies, and orients FS leaders and committees to those standards. The Director of Faculty Senate Operations efforts align with and contribute to the diversity, equity and inclusion efforts that are outlined in OSU's Diversity Action Plan. These efforts have the goal to expand access to higher education, solve problems through research and innovation, and enhance prosperity for every community across the state, and by extension the nation and world.

Key Responsibilities 60% Operational Effectiveness
   » Manage Faculty Senate operations with an emphasis on efficiency and consistency, utilizing automation and modern office software and tools as appropriate. Initially, this will require the development and execution of a comprehensive strategy to modernize Faculty Senate office operations. Evaluate existing processes and workflows within the Faculty Senate. Identify bottlenecks, redundancies, and areas to simplify and optimize procedures. Develop streamlined procedures that release capacity for the Senate to support OSU's strategic plan and diversity action plan. Champion the adoption of technology tools. Collaborate with UIT teams to identify and implement software solutions for key Faculty Senate activities, records management, decision-making, communications, and to ensure a continuously updated Faculty Senate webpage.
   » Perform initial assessment and recommend innovations to Faculty Senate leadership abilities and the Provost's Office. Collaborate with university partners to implement approved solutions. Consistently reassess and improve.
   » Provide administrative and strategic support to the FS President and the Executive Committee. Facilitate communication between the FS leadership abilities and different entities of the OSU administration.
   » Administer annual elections and committee formation. Collaborate with Senate committees to streamline operations and to assure committee meetings, agendas and documentation are timely and effective. Promote consistency and sustaincapability in all senate activities. Review practices to minimize structural bias. Foster transparency and openness in decision-making processes.
   » Update and maintain FS communication strategy that meets the needs of highly varied university communities, particularly people from diverse cultures, practices and abilities. Develop and implement cycle to build, review and archive website content, with emphasis on accessibility.
   » Partners with the Office of the Provost to develop and monitor the Faculty Senate Office budget.

35% leadership abilities
   » Cultivate and steward productive and professional partnerships with the Office of the Provost, OSU-Cascades Academic Faculty Council, college leadership abilities, and other unit leaders and teams.
   » Organize Senate strategic planning activities. With Senate leadership abilities, develop short- and long-term objectives and manage operations to help achieve those objectives. Facilitate effective and productive communication between the Faculty Senate and various university units. Maintain regular communication with university audiences.
   » Craft and support the delivery of an orientation program for new Faculty Senate leaders and Senators to minimize annual disruption and retain key institutional knowledge.
   » Serve as subject matter expert on Faculty Senate activities, practices, policy and intent.
   » Provide direct-line supervision for an Office Specialist 2.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
