The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Memphis ( www.memphis.edu/biology ) in Memphis (TN) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position at the adjunct Professor level. The candidate will develop an innovative and integrative research program in any area of cellular and molecular biology. The prosperous candidate will also be expected to teach undergraduate courses in the core curriculum and develop new undergraduate and graduate courses related to their research, located on departmental needs.

We are particularly interested in candidates using innovative approaches in cellular and molecular biology. Their work should incorporate multidisciplinary methods to study eukaryotic cell functions, including those from understudied species. The applicant should demonstrate scholarly accomplishments and evidence of funding potential. The prosperous applicant is expected to develop an extramurally funded research program that advances their field of study while training graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) and undergraduate students. In addition to teaching cell biology or biochemistry, teaching assignments will depend on the candidate's interests and departmental needs. The prosperous applicant is also expected to engage in service activities at the Department, College, and University levels. Competitive income and startup funds will be offered. Appointment is subject to budgetary approval.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent from an accredited institution in biology or a closely related field. The position requires a minimum of twelve months of practice as a postdoctoral researcher, fellow, or similar position. Candidates must have a minimum of five peer-reviewed publications to meet the university requirements for graduate faculty status.

The Department of Biological Sciences includes over 25 exceptionally collaborative and collegial faculty members engaged in interdisciplinary research (see: https://www.memphis.edu/biology/people ) and the training of Ph.D. and M.S. students. With an undergraduate enrollment of over 800 students and with research programs and curricula covering all major subdisciplines of Biology, the Department is one of the largest academic units at the University of Memphis. In addition to departmental facilities such as a BD Melody Cell Sorter and Bio-rad ddPCR, research is facilitated by the Integrated Microscopy Center , Institute for Agricultural and Conservation Research and Education , Data Science Research Cluster , High-Performance Computing Facility , Animal Care Facility, Center for Biodiversity , the Edward J. Meeman Biological Station , and the FedEx Institute of Technology .
