Minimum Position Appropriate qualifications: Master's Degree and a minimum of three (3) years of appropriate practice in a higher education academic advising center. significant practice may substitute for the required education.

Special Conditions: The department is especially interested in candidates with a professional orientation in academic, career, and educational counseling with practice with advising tools such as Navigate, UMdegree, Banner, and Filemaker.

First consideration will be given to current U of M employees.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday
8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

May be required to work beyond normal schedule.

Job tasks

tasks & Job responsibilities: Advises and assists students in making informed, timely, and appropriate decisions regarding their academic major. Assists students in making decisions regarding late registrations, late drop/adds, overloads, and other matters. Makes critical decisions regarding student requests for course changes, course overloads, transfer credit requests, and late and retroactive deadlines. Advises students regarding strategies to maintain academic scholarships such as the HOPE.

tasks & Job responsibilities: Assists Center Director by assuming administrative leadership abilities and liaison functions, with new staff selection and training, and with management decisions. Represents the Academic Advising Center in the absence of the Director. Provides supervision and mentorship to new Academic Advising Center staff and graduate interns.

tasks & Job responsibilities: Provides orientation services to students; and assists them in adjusting to new surroundings and academic demands. Articulates multiple options to new students and facilitates selection into programs such as Honors, Fresh Connections, ACAD, Student Support Services, and Study Abroad.

tasks & Job responsibilities: Assists the Director in planning Center operations, clerical staff evaluations and supervision, and maintaining printable sources of information. Coordinates the Center's evaluation process (student feedback).

tasks & Job responsibilities: Attends various committee meetings and job-related events. Gathers maintains and presents updated curriculum information for their assigned academic departments. Maintains consciousness and expertise of changes in academic requirements in policies and procedures. Contacts and consults with faculty and academic departments regarding student concerns. Participates in university activities/committees representing the Center.
