Mandatory Position This position is designated as ?mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions. Primary Purpose of Position This is a Facility Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Trades) at the Journey level. The position is considered to be fully functioning in a particular trade area. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to execute all general maintenance work at the contributing level. This position may also be allowed to execute/lgain another trade discipline either at the contributing or journey level. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components in assigned zones. Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: Graduation from high school or equivalent. practice in the trade(s) areas related to the position's function may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Essential Job tasks 1. Responsible for assessment of Regional Utility Plant (RUP) conditions and performing proper resolution methods. 2. Assist Advanced level technicians in the repair and installation of RUP systems, focusing on chillers and cooling towers. 3. Responsible for performing routine maintenance to ensure that RUP systems continue to run smoothly, systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of RUP components does not deteriorate. 4. Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot control circuits. 5. Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary. Other Work Responsibilities 1. Act as a Journey level worker and assist with other facility maintenance technicians. 2. Work with supervision or instruction, and complete work with competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices. 3. Communicate effectively with customers, and managers, and provide high-quality customer service located on University policy and procedures. 4. Record everyday activities in an order tracking system (Archibus). 5. Perform other tasks as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations. Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years practice. practice in the trade(s) areas related to the position's function may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. 2. 2-4 years practice in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment specializing in chillers/cooling towers preferred. 3.. E.P.A. 608 Refrigerant certification preferred ( able to obtain within the first year of employment) 4. capability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension) required. 5. Effective expertise in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication. 6. Computer literate. 7. expertise and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and availability to lgain new programs. 8. capability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures. 9. capability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork. 10. The HVAC Shop position requires the operation of assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
