POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Associate Producer, PBS NewsHour's Foreign Affairs unit, responsible for assisting with studio and field production, setting up stories, and assisting the beat with other requests, as necessary.
PRIMARY Job responsibilities:
   » Writing and editing of set up and longer-form tape pieces.
   » Help set up and coordinate shoots in the field for video packages.
   » New field production for live studio segments and hits on nightly show.
   » Assist lead, or senior, producer with editing stories.
   » Pre-interview and book nightly news studio segment guests.
   » Coordinate digital stories with broadcast elements and editorial.
   » Perform related special projects or other tasks as assigned.
INTERNATIONAL/DOMESTIC TRAVEL AS NEEDED
SKILLS DESIRED, NOT REQUIRED: Broadcast quality video shooting, editing on Premiere, Avid
Additional Skills and Appropriate qualifications:
   » Bachelor's degree.
   » Minimum of two (2) years' practice working in journalism, preferably for a national outlet.
   » Or equivalent combination of education and practice
   » Some skills, expertise, and sources around a variety of topic areas impacting Foreign Affairs
   » Demonstrated capability to create and manage fresh, compelling news and feature content for broadcast and/or online
   » Superior writing skills, under deadline pressure, for both short turn-around news items and longer-term feature content
   » practice using social media and an interest in using new social media tools for reporting and story telling
   » capability to work closely with colleagues in a collaborative manner under deadline
   » Availcapability to work a non-standard or extended work schedule
   » Some practice using nonlinear editing software including Premiere, AVID or Final Cut
   » Some practice filming broadcast quality video preferred, but not required
   » Excellent organizational, project planning, presentation, and time management skills with careful attention to detail needed.
Job location:
WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce located out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions located in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the function.
