Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Temporary Medical Laboratory Technician 2 position for the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in the Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position is being filled on a temporary basis to cover while an employee is on protected leave. The position is anticipated to end on (date), or upon return of the on leave employee. This position does not carry an expectation of continued appointment to the position or continued employment at Oregon State University.

The College of Veterinary Medicine provides professional and graduate programs for veterinary students, operates a Large and a Small Animal Teaching Hospital and the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The College operates within a total budget of approximately $16 million annually which supports educational programs, veterinary medical and diagnostic public services, and research programs with broad impacts related to animal and human health. The College employs approximately 150 faculty and staff, plus student workers.

The Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is an integral part of the College of Veterinary Medicine and provides diagnostic services for the College, practicing veterinarians in the state and region, wildlife officials and livestock, poultry and pet owners. The purpose of this position is to execute a wide variety of clinical laboratory testing in direct support of the Teaching hospitals, veterinarians, researchers, and clients around the world.

This position provides technical support to professional medical laboratory personnel by performing a variety of standard and complex testing and examination procedures. The incumbent will help in maintaining quality control for all instruments and procedures and participate in training of veterinary residents, house agents and students.

Key Responsibilities 50% Prepares and prioritizes specimens for analysis in the clinical pathology laboratory. Verifies and enters laboratory results using the laboratory information management system (LIMS). Communicates with students and clinicians in a respectful and professional manner in person and via telephone, written and electronic reports.

30% Performs a variety of standardized and complex manual and automated laboratory tests, correlating with other tests as needed before reporting results. Operates, calibrates and performs everyday maintenance on instruments/centrifuges used for diagnostic testing.

20% Maintains stock of all laboratory supplies, everyday cleaning of laboratory glass wear and various other laboratory tasks as needed. Contributes to a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment.

What We Require A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology or Microbiology; OR Two years of Medical Laboratory Technician practice preparing reagents, test media, and stains; performing standardized laboratory tests and examinations; and assisting occasionally in more complex, specialized testing procedures AND one of the following: One year of ?technical trainee? practice as a Laboratory adjunct in a medical laboratory; Completion of a certified Laboratory adjunct training program; or A certificate or Associate's degree from an accredited Medical laboratory Technician training program.

Demonstrated effective oral and written communication expertise, and capability to engage respectfully with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and practices.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
