Editorial Director

September 4, 2024 Long Island Campus Marketing and Communications
St. Joseph’s University, New York is seeking a creative, detail-oriented and practiced Editorial Director to join its marketing and communications team. The Editorial Director will report to the Vice President for Marketing and Communications and is part of the leadership abilities team in the Office of Marketing and Communications. Responsible for the editorial direction and execution of all St. Joseph’s University, New York marketing materials and digital communication, the ideal candidate will have a strong background in building engaging content for a diversified internal and external audience on a variety of media platforms.
The Office of Marketing and Communications supervises all advertising, creates brand consciousness and manages publicity, creative production and promotions for internal and external audiences. Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of effectively managing a creative staff and creating an atmosphere of collaboration, creativity, innovation and trust. Familiarity with the latest trends in video marketing, digital publishing, social media and emerging tools and trends for reaching both new and traditional audiences is a plus.
With vibrant campuses in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn and Patchogue, the editorial director will be primarily located at our off-site facility in Great River, but will have occasional travel to both campuses. Occasional evening and weekend event coverage will also be required.

Essential tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

   » Sets the editorial tone, direction and execution for all of St. Joseph’s marketing materials, which include print and digital communications, SJNY Magazine, the President’s Report, the president’s electronic newsletter, the University’s website and the University’s news magazine platform, OnCampus.sjny.edu.
   » Collects, generates, edits and drives content across multiple platforms, including recruitment materials, advertising, social media, and the University’s website and magazine news platform.
   » Manages the editorial team for content development, marketing copywriting, proofreading, interns and freelancers (as needed).
   » Writes, edits and provides final review on all print and digital projects, including publications, online news stories and profiles, SJNY Magazine and Web pages.
   » Works with key stakeholders across the Long Island and Brooklyn campuses to establish voices and identities for various academic units and recruitment communications.
   » Directs video, copy and ancillary support scheduling for print and digital communications. Creates and edits video, as needed.
   » Leads weekly content meetings with marketing and communications staff members.
   » Makes key connections that will spur innovative and creative ideas.
   » Provides leadership abilities for the creative team through brainstorms and team meetings.
   » Maintains exceptional quality of all content and ensures compliance to all standards.
   » Tracks and updates University statistics, as necessary.
   » Identifies opportunities to increase content distribution and exposure.
   » Analyzes and recommends strategies to improve content generation, placement and overall workflow.
   » Monitors projects from conceptualization to implementation.
   » Performs related tasks, as required.

   » This position is located on the St. Joseph’s University – Long Island Campus. Occasional travel to the Brooklyn Campus will be required.

Level of managery oversight:

Minimal. Due to the nature of the work and the fast-paced environment in which Information technology is produced, the editor must demonstrate the capability to carry out job tasks and responsibilities collaboratively and with minimal managery oversight.

Education/practice:

   » Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, marketing or a related field. Demonstrated editorial practice of at least 7 years; 3 years working in a marketing or related function.

income Range: $80,000 - $95,000
