Min Hourly Rate $14.70 (Standard); $13.70 (Non-Urban); $15.95 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $21.00 (Standard); $20.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Greenhouse Resident position for the Department of Agricultural Sciences - Greenhouse Operations at Oregon State University (OSU). Position will perform routine to complex technical or specialized tasks in support of greenhouse research. The resident position requires the person to live on site at the East Greenhouse apartment. Employment begins Winter Term 2025 with training for the position. The trained Resident will move into the apartment Spring Term 2025. Residents are employed to take care of the East and West Greenhouses at night, weekends, holidays, and school break periods. Potential 24/7 onsite checks of the environmental system, watering, and security are the basic resident responsibilities. Training is provided by fulltime GOPS staff, so residents achieve a level of competency to satisfactory perform their job tasks. Residents live on-site in a two-bedroom apartment with one other roommate who is also a Resident. capability to live in the apartment is a requirement for the position. Rent is reduced as a condition of employment. Position tasks » Routine H-V-C rounds and monitoring of controls as needed » Hand watering » Open/security for night workers, labs or classes » Emergency glazing » Pesticide applications » Assisting with regular work day watering in emergency » Required attendance to scheduled meetings with manager and other residents » Reporting maintenance and fire/life safety concerns immediately to manager » Knowing emergency procedures for minor H-V-C repairs, injuries, and equipment failures » Participating as a licensed pesticide applicator and adhere to all safety policies and procedures Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: http://fa.oregonstate.edu/stu-manual/500-employment-eligibility-requiremen ts » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term* *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications » Required to live on site. » Able to obtain a State of Oregon Public Pesticide Applicator License within 30 days of hire date. Requires clearance verifying use of full face respirator by prosperous mask fit test & respirator medical evaluation » capability to communicate verbally and in writing to greenhouse staff and clientele. » capability to work independently with minimum supervision. » capability to work weekends, evenings and holidays. » This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. Working Conditions / Work Schedule » Residents will be working in conditions where they are exposed to extreme temperatures, lighting, humidity, and dust. » Work on ladders, pushing/pulling carts and wheelbarrows, and lifting up to 50lbs, may be requested of the resident.
