POSITION OVERVIEW:
PBS News Student Reporting Labs (SRL) is a hands-on journalism training program that connects young people to real-world practices and educators to resources and community. SRL is seeking our next Video Production Intern to support video content projects across the department. The Video Production Intern will be an integral part of the SRL team and have opportunities to develop content, brainstorm ideas, and support department projects while developing journalism and production expertise. We are seeking for a strong video editor interested in supporting student voice, with a preference for candidates practiced in filming and camerawork.Candidates must be active college students.
PRIMARY Job responsibilities:
   » Producing video content on a need basis, including supporting a primary content project
   » Collaborating with SRL Staff to brainstorm and support new ideas, projects and goals
   » Supporting systems internally by tracking in an Editorial Calendar and AirTable
   » Assisting with related special projects or other tasks as assigned
DESIRED EDUCATION/practice:
Preferred Major:Journalism, media, communications, or related discipline.

   »Skill development:Gain practical practice while acquiring knowledge within the field of communication, journalism, and public broadcasting
   »knowledge real-world application:Develop a greater knowledge about reporting and how the interdisciplinary work of video production are powerful ways for young people to lgain and civically engaged
   »Personal Professional Development:Grow production expertise and lgain new systems while working in a professional environment to support the development of project-located learning resources
   »Portfolio building:Contribute to published content projects and receive production credits
Additional expertise and Appropriate qualifications:
   » A high proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe Premiere
   » capability to edit high quality video projects for a variety of audiences and platforms
   » Preferred: capability to film/shoot video
   » Proficiency in TikTok, Instagram and social media trends
   » Demonstrated the capability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment
   » Overall tech savvy expertise: you feel comfortable and are open to using Zoom, Google Drive, Slack, AirTable, Canva and other programs
   » Great interpersonal and communication expertise
   » Curiosity and enthusiasm for journalism, youth engagement and public broadcasting media
LOCATION
WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce located out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions located in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the function.
