Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Wood Tech position for the Craft Center at Oregon State University (OSU).

The OSU Craft Center seeks a motivated, dependable student to assist, grow and develop into a lead function with shared responsibilities in the upkeep and maintenance of our woodworking studio and programs. This position will require some woodworking tool and machine operation practice. You will join a team of trained staff comprised of Instructors and wood technicians and CC Directors who will work with you to further train and develop your skill sets, safe practices and expertise of the wood studio policies practices and requirements for use and upkeep. You will professionally represent the Craft Center, and when you can demonstrate proficiency, you will have the opportunity to lead orientations, Safety Assessment Workshops and perhaps Instruct. The Craft Center is a creative campus resource where OSU students & community can foster their creativity, gain hands-on learning practices, find and build community and where wellness and life balance are fostered through arts engagement. Position tasks
   » This is technical work at the action level involved in organizing, coordinating and maintaining supplies, tools & equipment.
   » Lead Orientations, assess member practice.
   » The student will monitor & properly dispose of wood waste.
   » Gain training in tool maintenance, large equipment monitoring & upkeep and proper procedures for safe operation.
   » Assist studio manager with maintaining studio, reporting any issues or concerns in a timely manner to CC Admin.
   » Assist with ordering supplies, replacement parts, etc.
   » Research tools, machinery and/or contact manufacturers in the effort to maintain the studio & it's equipment.
   » Provide instructional support
   » Peer train other staff
   » Be fully aware of all safety requirements established for safe studio use and abide by them.
   » Contribute to safety manuals, procedures and updates, etc.
   » Under general supervision, the employee will monitor the wood studio; keep the studio and storerooms clean and organized.
   » Clean and maintain studio regularly
   » Become expertiseable of the hazards of operation or materials, proper handling & education of members.
   » Become expertiseable in general craft center policies and procedure as well as specialized expertise as Information technology relates to a wood studio.
   » Assist teaching staff in maintaining laboratory operations, and other tasks within the program as needed.
   » The employee may grow into a leadership abilities function preparing demonstrations and presentations to students
   » Opportunity to grow into an instructing position
   » Inventories equipment, supplies and materials to maintain adequate quantities of stock
   » Performs other related tasks as assigned
   » 1st aid & CPR training preferred.

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications
   » Must be a currently enrolled student at Oregon State University for at least 6 undergraduate academic credits.
   » Preference given to students with work-study funding (not required).
   » Must be in good academic standing for the term prior to selection and during the entire period of employment.
   » Must have a demonstrated expertise of woodworking and/or machine operation and maintenance.
   » Must exhibit sensitivity toward traditionally underrepresented groups (such as students of color, LGBTQQIA students, and differently-abled students).
   » Must be a regularly admitted OSU student.
   » Must have strong communication expertise to accurately relay and explain information to staff and members
   » capability to lift 50 lbs. or more
   » Comfort level with working with dirty materials
   » capability to work well independently and as a team
