To achieve its vision, the Department of Chemistry has set several interrelated goals: • To educate undergraduate, master's and doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in the discipline of chemistry and provide them with experiential and professional development opportunities that will enable them to contribute to the scientific community and society; • To extend the frontiers of expertise through research in chemistry and significant interdisciplinary areas; • To increase scientific literacy and develop well-informed citizens through strong support of the University's General Education program; • To participate in the University-wide academic community through interdisciplinary programs and collaborations; • To contribute to the local, regional, national, and global communities through service activities that promote education and the dissemination of expertise; The Chemistry Department offers a BA in Chemistry, a BS in Chemistry (ACS Certified), a BS in Chemistry with Biochemistry Option (ACS Certified), a research-located MS in Chemistry, and is a lead department for the PhD in Chemistry and Nanoscale Science. Vacancy Open to All Candidates Description of Work The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recognizes the differentiation of mission, goals, and objectives inherent in the diversity of disciplines represented by its colleges and departments. Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals. Teaching - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work. Essential tasks and Responsibilities tasks include teaching introductory chemistry courses, with the option of teaching upper-level courses (depending on the candidate's interests and the department's needs); and service responsibilities, such as support for departmental curriculum / pedagogy development and serving on department and university committees. Additional tasks could include serving as the coordinator of introductory laboratories or courses. Minimum practice/Education UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Preferred Education, Skills and practice practice in assessing or researching postsecondary pedagogical practices is preferred. We especially welcome candidates from candidates with practice and interest in utilizing evidence-located scientific teaching and learning practices to foster student success in general education and introductory chemistry courses.
