The appointment is a 9-month tenure-track position. Teaching for this position will include graduate and undergraduate courses in Creative Writing, primarily fiction but potentially also poetry. The prosperous candidate will be committed to working closely with students, fully participating in and developing a thriving Creative Writing program, and engaging in community outreach. We seek candidates who can work collaboratively with faculty and students from a wide variety of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds. The income range for this position is $77,000-$80,000. The teaching load for tenure-track adjunct professors in the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences is 2/2, thereafter 2/2 for research-intensive tenured faculty members. Minimum practice/Education UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Preferred Education, Skills and practice MFA or Ph.D. in Creative Writing with a specialization in fiction; evidence of success as a published writer including at least one book of fiction published or under contract with a nationally recognized press; a demonstrated commitment to continued creative activity; and evidence of prosperous university teaching. Secondary skills in poetry is highly desirable. Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices engage, include, and eliminate barriers to learning for UNC Charlotte students, and how their educational approach helps increase the engagement and success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university.
