Job tasks The Associate Director of leadership abilities & Programs reports to the Director of Campus Recreation & Wellness and serves as a member of the departmental Executive & leadership abilities Teams. The Associate Director is charged with the responsibility for superviseing the development, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of programs in Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Special Events, Adventure & Team Training and Athletic Training. Additionally, the Associate Director is responsible for superviseing departmental fundraising and sponsorships, donor relations, assessment, and student employee development. The Associate Director of Programs has instructional as well as administrative responsibilities in strategic planning, marketing and public relations, program development, personnel management, fiscal accountcapability, staff development, data analysis and assessment, and documentation via periodic program reports, evaluations, and annual and semi-annual reviews of programs, facilities and equipment. The Associate Director supervises four full-time professionals, and indirectly supervises one Coordinator, two Graduate adjunct, and approximately 150 student employees. The Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Special Events, Adventure, Athletic Training, and Challenge Course/Team Training areas encompass over 10,000 participants annually. This position will also provide administrative oversight and spearhead all departmental assessment and strategic planning efforts in alignment with the Division of Student Affairs and the University. The Associate Director of Programs is primarily an administrative position (80-90%) but requires time at activity sites (10%-20%) to train staff, observe programs, and provide feedback. The amount of field time varies and is located on program demands. This position will complete other tasks as assigned by Director of CRW or designee. Program Administration » supervises and directs formal programming in the areas of Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Special Events, Adventure & Team Training, and Athletic Training. » Works with appropriate individuals in scheduling, utilizing facilities/equipment and assuring smooth operation of CRW's intramural sports, club sports, special events, adventure, challenge course/team training, and athletic training. » Works with staff members to review and recommend the purchase of equipment and supplies for designated program and administrative areas consistent with departmental mission and goals. » Consults with the Director of Campus Recreation & Wellness for new programming and the evaluation of designated existing programs. Maintains a wide variety of program interests to meet the needs of a diverse university community. » supervises budget via purchasing of equipment and supplies for the program areas and marketing, and by income management consistent with the program goals and mission. Works with appropriate staff in developing budget needs and monitoring expenses. » Works with staff members to develop, review and evaluate risk management plans including rescue/evacuation protocols, licapability releases, inspections, accident/incident reporting and by keeping current with national standards of safe field practices. Benchmarks other related programs via collaborative programs, program comparisons, and by attending state, regional and national conferences. » Manages the CRW vehicle fleet to include van and truck reservations for departmental and university use. » Continue to develop professionally through membership in professional organizations, attending conferences and workshops, professional reading, and staying current with trends and issues pertinent to campus recreation and leadership abilities-located activities. Represent CRW on divisional and university-wide committees as assigned by the Director. » Represent the institution on regional/national committees. » Supports campus and Student Affairs events through active participation and presence at events and programs. Talent Management » Provides leadership abilities, evaluation, and mentoring to full-time staff members, graduate adjuncts, and undergraduate students in assigned administrative areas. Responsible for the recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of program staff in designated areas in compliance with all applicable university guidelines. » Coach career growth by providing various methods of continuing education opportunities. » Provide an environment that supports strengths-located learning through regular coaching conversations. » Deliver frequent praise and recognition for excellent work. » Create an environment where employees feel heard and appreciated for their contributions. » function model a management style that promotes well-being and self-care. Fundraising and Donor Relations » Coordinates departmental efforts in conjunction with the Division of Student Affairs and University related to fundraising and donor stewardship. » Host annual events focused on donor relations. » Manage all sponsorship/partnership contracts with Division of Student Affairs to include departmental special events and other sponsorship efforts. Assessment and Evaluation » Serve as departmental liaison to Student Affairs Assessment, Research, and Planning office (SAARP). » Coordinate annual departmental assessment efforts including surveys, data collection, and reporting. » Report all appropriate data in conjunction with Divisional Strategic Plan efforts. Minimum Education/practice » A Masters' degree in recreation/sports administration, physical education, higher education, or a related field » At least five (5) years of professional practice » Direct practice in recreational sports programming, supervision, administration, and evaluation » Demonstrated expertise and practice in risk management planning » Demonstrated capability for clear, cogent written and verbal communication. » Current First Aid & CPR certification by hire date License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation None Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education » Seven years of professional practice in a related field. » Direct administrative practice in at least two of the following areas: Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Adventure & Team Training, and/or Athletic Training. » practice supervising full-time staff members » practice managing large-scale special events.
