Job Summary The OSU-Cascades Teacher Education program is seeking an Academic Program Coordinator (APC). This is a full time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.


The person in this function will lead most logistical and organizational aspects of several teacher education programs and will be the primary point of contact for students and university personnel as well as external entities. this function will include in program advising for currently enrolled BS and MAT students in our on-campus and clinically located (online) programs, coordinating advising meetings and communications, and helping faculty advisors prioritize significant information.
Additionally, the prosperous candidate will have responsibility in coordinating many other aspects of the program, including hiring associate faculty members, managing course and classroom schedules, updating website information, and assisting our program with accreditation and graduate school-related assessment efforts. Our nationally accredited programs focus on preparing graduates to become skilled elementary and secondary teachers, through a cohort model where students form strong bonds. Through multiple field-located practical practices, candidates develop their knowledge of learning theories and implement research-driven instructional strategies and methods.

The APC is a critical member of a dedicated and passionate team that supports an optimum learning environment for all teacher candidates across our programs. The APC will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to ensure a prosperous academic program.

This position requires a bachelor's degree, demonstrated competency and/or practice working with people from various backgrounds and cultures; strong interpersonal expertise; public speaking expertise; presentation and writing expertise; attention to detail; the capability to learn, retain, and integrate new information quickly; the capability to follow through in a timely matter; and familiarity with information and database technology. Additional requirements include practice in recruitment, admissions advising, or other tasks related to the academic support of programs.

OSU-Cascades, located in Bend, Oregon, is a campus of Oregon State University. Established in 2001, the university currently enrolls more than 1,300 students in bachelor's and master's degree programs. The campus expanded to a four-year university in 2015 and opened its 10-acre campus in fall 2016. The Oregon legislature approved additional funding in 2017 and 2018 for continued campus expansion, which is currently in progress. The campus has ambitious enrollment goals to reach 3,000 students and is engaged in building a culturally diverse and community-centric educational environment.

Key Responsibilities 30% - Student Support:
   » Serves as the primary point of contact for incoming and current students.
   » Holds regular advising meetings for students to communicate scheduling and provide general program related academic advising all over the academic life cycle.
   » Helps students navigate administrative processes within the university system including advising and orienting students regarding university and major-specific regulations related to degree completion including interpreting transcripts, assisting with course selection and registration, career counseling, and making academic and personal referrals as needed.
   » Works in coordination with Graduate Student Recruitment Coordinator and Clinical Partnership Liaison to address prospective student needs.
   » Works in coordination with Undergraduate Academic Advisor to support retention of pre-teaching students and with community colleges to support transfer students.
   » Creates and expands opportunities to encourage student dialogue, engage historically marginalized and underserved populations, promote cultural competence across all constituencies, and affirm and celebrate the University's commitment to inclusive excellence.
   » Collaborates with external agencies to coordinate support for diverse groups of students and participants by creating opportunities for culturally informed mentoring relationships, internships, and volunteer activities.

25% - Faculty Support:
   » In collaboration with Program Lead completes course and classroom scheduling.
   » Assists Program Lead with supporting faculty and tracking workload units for faculty.
   » Assists Program Lead in hiring of part-time faculty and maintains all contracts of connected faculty.
   » In collaboration with core faculty, coordinates orientation for new associate faculty and part-time faculty and maintains regular support and communication with part-time faculty (facilitate textbook order, request syllabi).
   » Tracks and updates Advising Lists.
   » Assist Program Lead with scholarship management.
   » Manages grants and projects as determined by program faculty and the Program Lead, including grants and projects with confidential and/or sensitive material.

25% - Operations & Administrative Support:
   » Serves as program's web content master, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information at all times.
   » Leads the planning, organization, and implementation of program events and meetings.
   » Works in coordination with adjunct Director for Licensure, Accreditation, and Assessment and Program Lead to draft required reports.
   » Works in coordination with Internship Coordinator and Clinical Partnership Liaison to support placement process.
   » Assists the Program Lead in program budget development and implementation.
   » Performs degree audits to ensure compliance with university and college/school policies and procedures as they pertain to degree completion.
   » Provides trainings and tracks compliance with Programs of Study.
   » Completes diverse and multiple assignments within designated timelines and with high level of accuracy and efficiency by taking initiative to set priorities and work independently.

15% - Curriculum Support:
   » Supports core faculty with multiple assignments in preparation for accreditation reports.
   » Supports core faculty in developing and maintaining program and student learning results in data management system.
   » Assists core faculty in auditing connected faculty's Canvas courses and responding to inquiries.
   » Assists core faculty with curriculum proposal process using Curriculum Inventory Management (CIM).

5% - Other tasks as Assigned

What You Will Need
   » Bachelor's Degree in discipline of choice
   » Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and practice in learning and utilizing a variety data management systems
   » Strong written and oral communication expertise, presentation expertise, and practice in public speaking
   » practice in a constantly changing environment where new processes are being developed
   » practice in either teaching, academic advising, admissions counseling, academic support programs or a combination of those areas
   » Demonstrated practice working in or with initiatives that support or engage communities of color and people that hold identities that have been historically underrepresented and underserved
   » Strong attention to detail and meeting deadlines
   » Demonstrated capability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize appropriately
   » Strong interpersonal expertise that support students, faculty, and staff with problem solving

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
