Posting DetailsPosition InformationPosting Number: 20113005 Position Title: Academic Advisor FTE: 1.00 Employment type: Staff Department: Dean of Arts and Sciences Position Summary Information Job Summary/Basic Function: About this function: This position is responsible for providing comprehensive academic advising and student success support to an assigned cohort of students. An Academic Advisor for Pre-Professional Programs advises undergraduate students pursuing a health sciences Pre-Professional concentration (Pre-Med, Pre-Dental, etc.). The position focuses heavily on enrollment, reenrollment, and departmental and academic requirements. What You'll Do - Position Job responsibilities: » Serves as academic advisor. » Performs data entry and data processing using Microsoft Access software. » Prepares and maintains academic files on pre-professional students, professional school candidates, and prospective students. » Answer phones and gives out general information. » Advises students of curriculum and catalog requirements, and counsels students regarding Professional School admission requirements » Processes all paperwork related to academic advising, per policies » Assist COAS faculty and staff in various activities related to program, including written and verbal communications with students, faculty and community agencies. » Serves as a communication link for all current and potential Pre-Professional students in office and at recruitment and orientation events. » Performs other related activities to support the COAS and the Pre-Professional Program. » Performs routine clerical tasks such as writing memos and letters, filling, and running errands. Key Competencies: » Must be able to communicate information pertaining to university academic policies to students in a relatable method » knowledge or practice with recruitment, retention, and student success programs » Proficient with Microsoft office suite » Excellent customer service skills » Strong writing and verbal communication skills » Strong organizational skills » Ethical, able to maintain confidential information » Demonstrated leadership abilities skills Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to execute a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.
