Play On PhillyAbout Play On PhillyPlay On Philly (POP) is a non-profit organization that provides daily, after-school music instruction to over 300 K-12 students. We work in communities that historically have had little or no access to formal music education. POP offers a transformative music education practice that develops and inspires the behaviors and personal expertise needed for a prosperous life. We are pursuing a Flute Instrument Specialist for programming at Roman Catholic High School. About Roman Catholic Preparatory School Founded by Thomas E. Job Description POP's involvement at Roman Catholic includes in-school instruction for the student body at the school. This program is supplemented with individual itinerant teachers, Instrument Specialists (IS), who help with the musical growth of the students. An IS works with a single instrument section of the ensemble. Students are pulled out of their regular everyday music class periods for sectional lessons which will include instrumental technique and specific ensemble repertoire needs. The IS will consult with the ensemble director, POP's Roman Catholic Program Coordinator, to determine appropriate activities for each student group. The IS is also responsible for reporting a grade for each student in their section each week; guidance for criteria and standards of grading will be provided. We are seeking for lifelong learners and collaboratively natured individuals who enjoy and have practice working with high-schoolers, are creative, and can problem-solve and multi-task. Requirements » You are a professional musician, specializing in flute. » You have at least one year of formal music teaching practice with young people. » You can work occasional nights and weekends as required. Compensation This position is paid at a rate of $50/hour. Instructors may be asked to teach up to 4 hours each week. Work Commitment September 2024 - May 2025 with classes on Mondays and Fridays, approximately 1:00 - 3:00pm There will be no work during the week of Thanksgiving, the last 2 weeks of December, or the week of spring break. Classes follow the Roman Catholic academic calendar, including federal holidays, religious holidays, and early dismissals. The Program Coordinator will communicate any closures or schedule shifts with as much advance notice as possible.
