The College of Agricultural Sciences is seeking an Interim Associate Dean of Academics. This is a part-time (0.50 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position .

The Interim Associate Dean for Academics (IADA) is a senior administrative leadership abilities team member at the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS). The leadership abilities team is responsible for executive functions, including policy development and strategic planning, and, with the unit administrators, for managing, administering, and coordinating the operations of the CAS, the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Agriculture and Natural Resources program of the OSU Extension Service. With other administrative team members, the IADA has responsibilities relating to personnel, program, and budget management, promoting communication and cooperation, and advancing the integration of education, extension, and research programs for the College.

The IADA focuses on working closely and partnering with academic department heads, academic advisors, graduate mentors, and curriculum coordinators to provide direction for Undergraduate and Graduate student programs and to facilitate innovation in curriculum development and delivery. Supporting student success - recruitment, orientation, academic advising, mentoring, and career planning is a core function. Independent travel and occasional evening and weekend work may be required to execute some or all the tasks of this position. In addition to the shared leadership abilities of the College overall, the IADA is responsible for program direction, personnel, budget, and other Academic Programs Office management issues.

Key Responsibilities 30% UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENT CURRICULAR AND PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION
   » Collaborate with department heads and program leaders to provide leadership abilities for and support innovation in curriculum development (including online degree programs, undergraduate topics, and advising strategies, review of awards and scholarships, curriculum changes, and other tasks as assigned.).
   » Represent the College at the university level in issues related to academic programs (e.g., provide leadership abilities and oversight for student success programs, strategic initiatives, Baccalaureate Core/Core Education discussions, curriculum development and assessment, and disciplinary matters).
   » Convene Department Heads and Academic Program Leaders' meetings to discuss undergraduate topics and advising strategies, review awards and scholarships, discuss curriculum changes, and other tasks as assigned.
   » Facilitate and assist with the development of new academic programs, ventures, and partnerships (e.g., online degree programs, Honors College, international programs, articulation agreements with community colleges at all OSU locations, including the Corvallis campus, OSU Cascades, Eastern Oregon-located programs, and the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport.
   » supervise assessment of academic programs and curricula within the College (e.g., accreditation reviews, retention efforts).
   » Work with units on preparing materials for departmental reviews.

   » Work with the CAS adjunct Dean of Graduate Education and Research to support academic efforts for graduate students.

30% STUDENT ADVISING, RECRUITMENT, SUCCESS, AND ENGAGEMENT
   » Exercise final College decision-making authority in academic disputes and deficiencies, petitions, appeals, reinstatement issues, transfers, and transfer credit articulation. Serve as the College Hearing agent or name a representative to administer the academic misconduct cases in the college.
   » supervise academic advising to ensure quality and mediate conflicts for students and advisors. Work regularly with the College Director of Advising and departmental advisors to ensure optimal advising practices.
   » Provide leadership abilities for and support innovative recruitment and prospective student services that enhance the diversity of the College's student body. Monitor and provide feedback on student recruitment programming for the College and departments in cooperation with the University.
   » Review, assess, and implement changes to strengthen Undergraduate and Graduate orientation programming at the College and department levels. Provide leadership abilities, collaborate with and cover for the Director of Advising at University-hosted orientation (and retention events, and assist departmental advisors).
   » Provide leadership abilities for and support innovation in international opportunities, internships/undergraduate research, and career services while collaborating with units and academic programs' office employees to increase overall engagement.
   » Provide oversight for the process and selection of graduate student recruitment awards, including Provosts Fellowships/Scholarships and ARCS Awards.
   » Develop programs to benefit Undergraduate and Graduate educational success, including research-oriented programs and applying for Federal grant programs.
   » supervise, work with, and back up, when necessary, the programming for the Ambassadors student leadership abilities development program.
   » Serve as a member of the College's Scholarship and Awards Committee.
   » Serve as a liaison to the College's student organizations and representative bodies.

30% ADMINISTRATION AND SUPERVISION
   » Work collaboratively as a member of the College Deans' group, whose team efforts include developing and implementing the University's plan (Prosperity Widely Shared), the College's strategic advantage, the College's Strategic Plan for Inclusive Excellence, the College's priority staffing, and promotion and tenure.
   » Maintains an knowledge of and acts as a representative for the College of Agricultural Sciences' education, extension, and research programs.
   » Within the established policies and procedures framework, make timely decisions that implement the philosophy, policy plans, and overall resource allocation established by the College.
   » Share responsibility with the administrative team for integrating programs across our network of branch experiment stations and academic units to deliver the College's missions.
   » Manage the Academic Programs Office (e.g., support student success from recruitment through graduation and manage alumni relations). Supervise the Academic Programs Office employees (7), the BioResource Research Program Director, the Sustaincapability Double Degree Program Director, and the Eastern Oregon Agriculture and Natural Resources Program Director.
   » Provide leadership abilities, supervision, and direction for assigned staff. Hire and train employees; plan, assign, and review work plans; establish goals for each position; and assess performance through completion of written evaluations.
10% SERVICE
   » Participate in professional organizations, College advisory group/head meetings, conventions, OSU Foundation events, and other activities as a representative of the College and University. This will require driving to and from Eastern Oregon campuses, professional conferences, stakeholder visits, and donor engagement activities.
   » Represent the College and University in various student and alumni activities.
   » Participate in College and University committees as appropriate.
   » Other tasks as assigned.
What You Will Need Requires PhD or terminal degree and a meritorious record of accomplishment in teaching, research, and service/engagement/outreach/extension.

Current appointment or a track record that qualifies for appointment at the Professor rank in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Oregon State University.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
