Primary Function of Organizational Unit The evidence-located study and practice of Public Health have never been more important as our region, state, nation, and world face the combined crises of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change. Information technology is time to break down silos, build partnerships and forge alliances to address these challenges. Eastern North Carolina has significant health burdens, especially in the rural, low-resource and racial and ethnic minority communities. Many of these issues are brought to light through environmental impacts in our region, such as natural disasters and climate change, and are impacted substantially by the social determinants of health. covering these health threats and the disparities that stem from them are the driving forces for our teaching, research and service.

Public Health is collaborative in research and service and work with local, regional, state and national public health and health care agencies and works closely with and are guided by a diverse group of Community Advisory Board members who lend their skills to help us achieve program goals.

Job tasks This part-time (~ 20 hr./wk.) position will serve as a research coordinator for the ECU Health Tarboro Family Medicine Clinic site which is part of a large randomized clinical trial designed to improve BP control. The coordinator will be the primary point of contact for this study site, located in Tarboro, NC. Primary responsibilities include screening medical records, calling/scheduling patients, consenting and enrolling patients, facilitating home BP monitoring by patients, collecting all research data, and entry/quality control of data in a centralized database at the Data Coordinating Center.

Job tasks:
   » Applies working expertise of the research principles and methods of patient engagement, completes IRB work and ethical consenting, collects biometric and survey data, completes data entry, assesses data quality, and supports analysis, completing defined assignments independently. Applies working expertise of patient/respondent-specific engagement and data collection strategies to optimize the collection and preparation of data/information for a defined research area (65%)
   » Organizes searches and queries electronic health records, collects, records, and presents data/information within defined research parameters; ensures accuracy and quality control. Facilitates patient engagement and use of data collection procedures. Summarizes data/information collected for investigators. Carry out collection and screening under supervision when atypical methods are used (15%)
   » Compiles and organizes data/information from different sources uploads information to a common database, and develops reports using an established format (15%)
   » Skilled in interpersonal communication to help research subjects feel at ease and interact with patients, investigators, and staff. Leads/updates exchange of research information through dialog, instruction, and demonstration. Contributes to the preparation of publications, reports, and other presentations of compiled results (5%)
Minimum Education/practice Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or practice; or equivalent combination of training and practice. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Preferred practice, Skills, Training/Education Prior practice in patient care settings or patient/clinical research is a plus.
