Min Hourly Rate $14.70 (Standard); $13.70 (Non-Urban); $15.95 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $21.00 (Standard); $20.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary The Zebrafish Fish Care adjunct at SARL is responsible for the everyday care and maintenance of zebrafish colonies used in scientific research. this function plays a crucial part in ensuring the well-being of the zebrafish and supporting continuing research activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in animal care, excellent attention to detail, and the capability to work effectively within a team. We are seeking to hire up to 3 individuals to start training over Winter Break. Position tasks everyday Feeding and Monitoring (20%): Ensure zebrafish colonies are fed according to schedule and monitor their feeding behavior to ensure adequate nutrition. Tank Maintenance (25%) : Clean zebrafish tanks regularly to maintain water quality and prevent the buildup of waste. This includes water changes, gravel vacuuming, and removal of uneaten food. Breeding Support (25%) : Assist in zebrafish breeding activities, including setting up mating pairs, monitoring spawning behavior, and collecting and caring for embryos. Facility Maintenance (20%): Assist with general maintenance tasks within the zebrafish facility, such as equipment cleaning, organization of supplies, and disposal of biohazard waste. Health Monitoring (5%) : Conduct routine health checks on zebrafish to identify any signs of illness or abnormalities. Report any concerns to the manager and assist with implementing necessary treatment protocols. Compliance : Adhere to all significant regulations and guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals, including those set forth by SARL and regulatory agencies. Working Conditions / Work Schedule This recruitment is to fill a part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week during the term and up to 40 hours per week during breaks, depending on availcapability) Student fish care adjunct position for the Tanguay Lab in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology at Oregon State University. Must be able to work at least three shifts a week: AM shift (7:50-12 PM), PM shift (1:30-5 PM). In lieu of weekday shifts, weekend shifts are available (8-4 PM). The start time of the shifts is set. However, the end time is flexible. The job location is off campus and requires reliable transportation - 28645 E Hwy 34, Corvallis, OR 97333 Some tasks may require lifting and carrying moderate loads (up to 20 lbs) and working in awkward positions.
