Job Summary This is an Internal Employment Opportunity.

The School of Civil and Construction Engineering invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term, Research Associate position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head.

The Research Associate (RA) will support research in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering. They will assist the PI in developing research strategies. Direction and guidance are provided by the manager/project PI and other sources as needed. The Research Associate will work with the PI to develop computer models, conduct research experiments, perform data analysis, present research at scientific conferences and public outreach events; develop and assist with writing grant proposals; assist in the training of graduate students in thesis or dissertation preparation, research methods, and computational/mathematical methods; and collaborate with other members of the research group.

Key Responsibilities 25% Manage laboratory activity, including usage, equipment/equipment maintenance, and supplies.

20% Write research and grant proposals related to asphalt materials and pavement; monitor proposals through to completion.

20% Prepare written results into publishable format, as requested by PI. (peer-reviewed journal papers, conference presentations)

20% Analyze and test samples and interpret results; compile information and results into significant formats to ensure content is appropriately represented; maintain records and data analysis information.

15% Manage the collection and preparation of research samples, ensuring the integrity of specimens and collection methodology.

Work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and students to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive research environment.

What You Will Need
   » PhD degree in civil engineering, pavement engineering, civil engineering materials, transportation engineering, or related field.
   » Strong commitment to collaboration, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
   » Strong publication record in prestigious peer-reviewed journals.
   » broad research practice and the capability to work effectively on several projects simultaneously.
   » Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
   » skills in pavement engineering, life-cycle cost analysis, life-cycle assessment, and infrastructure materials.
   » skills in statistical analysis and applications such as R or SPSS.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

What We Would Like You to Have skills in statistical analysis and computer programming.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
   » Work in a semi-open environment subject to colder temperatures during the winter, warm and humid conditions in the summer.
   » Work near, but at a safe distance, from dusty and noisy tools, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other vehicles.
   » Use all manner of common wood and metal shop tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, measuring tapes, bolts, hammers, and data collection systems to address project goals.
   » May require sitting or standing for long periods of time.

The typical working hours for the RA will be 8 am to 5 pm on weekdays. However, some research projects may require attending road constructions or asphalt mix productions that may take place outside of that time range.
