This is an onsite position. Primary Purpose of Position This position serves as a researcher in the Funk lab in Department of Biological Sciences. They will maintain the laboratory rodent colony as well as conduct and optimize core experimental protocols critical for lab operation and success. Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to execute the work. University Preferred Appropriate qualifications: Graduation from high school; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to execute the work or an equivalent combination of training and practice. Essential Job tasks » Maintain working expertise of research practices and accepted protocols, and expertise to organize an academic research lab. » Conduct tests and experiments in conformity with the grant guidelines and properly, accurately and consistently document results with minimal supervision. » Utilize expertise and technical capability to execute tests, analyze results and calibrate measurement devices without assistance or correction. » Use appropriate equipment, chemicals and research practices to accurately document results. » Assist the manager with lab management. » Utilize expertise and practice to conduct routine tests, assist and follow lab procedures consistently. » Maintain expertise required to recognize abnormal results, identify outliers and report questionable data to the manager for resolution. (This requires greater skill than just observing and collecting.) » Contribute to the upkeep of equipment by fixing small issues or notifying the manager for larger repairs. » Maintain a laboratory rodent colony. Other Work Responsibilities » Set up and run tests and experiments. » Contribute to receiving and logging of the labs supplies and consumables within an inventory. » Collect, organize and record data and documents. » Other tasks, as assigned.
