The Oregon State University Honors College is seeking an Academic Advisor. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Oregon State University Honors College (HC) is a degree granting college within Oregon State University (OSU), which is also home to broader campus-serving functions, including National and Global Scholarship Advising and the Design for Social Impact academic program. The overall mission of the college is to provide an innovative, enriched learning practice to undergraduates, integrating students from all academic colleges into a cohesive community. The college supports OSU's strategic initiatives; advances equity, inclusion and diversity; and provides employees with resources to meet the college's strategic priorities, while also supporting employee professional development and growth.

This position includes general academic advising responsibilities as well as a focus on supporting students as they consider the HC and begin their HC journey. In coordination with other HC staff members and directed by Honors College strategic goals and priorities, the person in this position will be responsible for developing, implementing and assessing processes for onboarding students that foster knowledge of HC degree requirements, connect HC requirements to students' OSU goals and facilitate early engagement with the honors thesis.

75% - Academic Advising
Direct work with Honors College students to support progress in college and university requirements and advancement toward life and career goals.
   » Stay current on university and college policies and practices related to academic advising and student success efforts.
   » Monitor academic progress of assigned caseload of honors undergraduate students.
   » Participate in proactive advising and outreach to students from diverse backgrounds.
   » Assist students in knowledge and applying academic and Honors College regulations and requirements.
   » Assist students with academic program planning, course selection and registration, resource connections and exploration of experiential learning opportunities.
   » Help students navigate and utilize university resources and services that support honors undergraduate education.
   » Maintain accurate information and resources for students through effective use of recommended technologies.
   » Coordinate Honors College requirements with those of students' disciplinary colleges.

10% - Focus Area
Develops, implements and assesses processes for onboarding new Honors College students that facilitate knowledge of HC degree requirements, connection of HC requirements with long-term goals and early engagement with the honors thesis process, in coordination with the Honors College head advisor, deans and coordinators.
   » Support admissions personnel with recruitment events and presentations. Meet with individual prospective students as necessary.
   » Develop accessible and inclusive resources, processes and recommendations that advance focus area and support strategic goals and priorities.
   » Support work of the advising team with their assigned caseloads as Information technology pertains to focus area.
   » Provide regular reporting in focus area and on related college key performance indicators.

10% - Thesis support
Support honors students through the Honors College thesis process.
   » Develop accessible resources and reports related to the thesis process and thesis completion.
   » Collaborate and develop thesis communications for prospective and incoming students.
   » Contribute recommendations supporting incoming and new students' engagement with the thesis.
   » Instruct thesis support courses.

5% - Professional development and other tasks as assigned
Includes, but is not limited to, engagement in trainings; membership in professional organizations and attendance at events; service on Honors College and university committees; participation on scholarship, internship and award review committees; and contributions to HC community events and activities.

What You Will Need
   » Bachelor's degree in an accredited institution (in discipline of choice).
   » practice in academic advising, academic mentoring, admissions counseling, academic support programs, resident life or a combination of those areas with another student contact area.
   » Demonstrated commitment to educational equity in a multicultural setting and a commitment to advancing participation of diverse groups and supporting diverse perspectives.
   » Outstanding demonstrated oral and written communication expertise.
   » Demonstrated practice in establishing rapport and using other social expertise (in large group, small group and interpersonal settings).
   » capability to communicate effectively verbally in front of small and large groups and to provide presentations, workshops, trainings and outreach programs.
   » Demonstrated computer expertise including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and capability to use and analyze data to inform advising practices.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

   » Two or more years of full-time employment as a professional academic advisor or student support professional in a college or university setting.
   » Master's or doctoral degree in higher education administration, advising, education or related field.
   » practice working with honors programs and/or honors students.
   » Professional practice assisting diverse learners, including non-traditional, online, international and underrepresented groups.
   » Knowledge and application of student development theory and proactive advising strategies.
   » practice with student information and/or customer relationship management systems (e.g. MyDegrees, Banner, Peoplesoft, Slate, Salesforce, Navigate, etc.).
   » practice implementing university regulations and curricular plans.
   » Teaching practice in a university or college setting.
