Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) Temporary Library Technician 2 position, for the Library practice and Access Department (LEAD) of The Valley Library at Oregon State University (OSU).
   » This position will primarily work on the Borrowing and Information desk in LEAD. LEAD is responsible for ensuring that service and space designs in the physical and virtual realms meet library users' current and future needs and continually cultivates an innovative environment of learning and engagement that empowers students and faculty.
   » This position will be primarily responsible for providing in-person and virtual circulation and reference services (via chat, text, email and telephone). This position will perform first and second tier reference services, while engaging in culturally appropriate and inclusive communication with library patrons and employees to provide excellent, empathetic, and equitable customer service for a diverse population of library users.
   » The person in this position anticipates and responds appropriately to patron needs and recommends services to manager and department head to meet those needs.

Key Responsibilities 75% Public Services & Patron Support:
Assists with the smooth operation of front-line library services. Tasks expected of all library technicians within LEAD.
   » Provides 1st and 2nd tier reference responses to patron needs, questions, and complaints in multiple formats (in person, phone, email, chat, etc.). Answers reference and research questions, provides technical troubleshooting, and escalates as necessary. Resolves complex issues referred by other staff and escalates these issues as necessary.
   » Provides a suite of circulation services, including checking items in and out, processing lost and found items, and maintaining and updating records in the ILS.
   » Has advanced expertise of library policies and procedures, interpreting and enforcing them and making exceptions as needed in conformity with LEAD values. Resolves non-routine and complex patron problems and requests for policy exemptions.
   » Troubleshoots with library software and applications. Troubleshoot technical problems with computers and equipment in the Learning Commons and all over library public service areas. Communicates and collaborates with Library Technology staff to ensure equipment in Learning Commons is in proper working order and available for use.
   » supervise students at the desk. Provides training and orientation to new student workers. Provides continuing immediate feedback and continued training as needed. Prioritizes and guides projects; assigns and reviews work as needed.
   » Is responsible for ensuring the front desk area is clean and maintained, including restocking supplies and inventorying materials.
   » Upholds library values especially, access, equity, intellectual freedom, privacy and user-centered service.
   » Maintains familiarity with OSU Libraries Code of Conduct, safety and security policies and procedures. Reports safety and security issues to the Department of Public Safety; may lead emergency evacuations, when necessary.

15% Lead Work:
   » Provide lead work (superviseing and assigning) and direction for student workers who have various identities, cultural backgrounds, and communication styles and expectations.
   » Manages workflow at Borrowing and Information Desk during scheduled desk hours (normally between 1pm and 6pm).
   » Helps train student employees to answer tier one and two reference and technology questions.
   » Prioritizes requests, assigns tasks to students, monitors progress on projects, assures that supplies are stocked and areas (classrooms, Learning Commons) are straightened and cleaned.
   » supervises student interactions with library patrons during scheduled desk hours.
   » Provides input on student performance to Student Support Team.
   » Collaborates with LT3 and Reference Services Coordinator to develop and provide customer/technical service support training.

10% Department and Special Projects:
   » LEAD staff members are expected to demonstrate professional behavior, model good work habits for others, stay on task, maintain an orderly work area, maintain an accurate Outlook calendar and respond to communication in multiple formats within a reasonable time frame.
   » Attends department-level meetings.
   » Provides assistance and backup for regular LEAD projects.
   » Assists with other work and special projects as assigned.
What We Require
2 years of current library practice (within five years) OR Associates degree (or equivalent 72 quarter hours or 48 semester hours), and 1 year of current practice; OR An equivalent combination of current library practice, training and/or education in related fields. AND, proficiency in multiple library specific computer applications, e.g., integrated library systems, database applications, institutional repository; content management systems.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule Work is performed in an office environment. Scheduled hours are Sunday, 10-3 & Monday to Wednesday, 1-6pm. Hours change during intersession and occasionally due to scheduled meetings.
