Job Summary The Department of Chemistry within the College of Science invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track adjunct Professor position.

Appointment at the adjunct Professor rank is anticipated; however, appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the prosperous candidate.

The incumbent in this position will develop an innovative research program in experimental organic chemistry, broadly defined, with expectations of positive impacts to the academy and to wider society in an area of strategic interest to OSU. This position is anticipated to be a major user of existing research infrastructure for which significant institutional investments have been made; for example, the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometric (MS), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analytical facilities. World class laboratory space specifically designed for the purpose of conducting organic chemistry-related research is available within the Linus Pauling Science Center (a $60M facility that opened in 2010) to support this position.

This position aligns with the major goals identified in the strategic plans of both OSU'S College of Science ( https://science.oregonstate.edu/strategic-plan-2022 ) and of the institution of Oregon State University itself ( https://leadership abilities.oregonstate.edu/strategic-plan ), each of which includes strategic research investments in the areas of climate science and related solutions, clean energy technology and related solutions, robotics, and integrated health and biotechnology. This position will enhance existing collaborations between the Departments of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Biophysics, and Physics in the College of Science and strengthen valuable partnerships with the College of Pharmacy (Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences).

The primary mission of the OSU Department of Chemistry is to provide a program of education in chemistry and to conduct research and scholarly activities. Educational programs encompass instruction at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral levels. Research-related activities strategically emphasize areas of chemistry important to human health, sustainable energy, and the environment. The Department offers Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Chemistry and has a rapidly growing student body, including ~200 undergraduate majors and ~110 graduate students.

The College of Science provides a core instructional function at OSU, supporting the ideals of learning, discovery, and engagement that are the foundation of a land-grant university. Key Responsibilities 45% Instruction
This position will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Chemistry. The normal assignment corresponding to 45% commitment to instruction is three courses (on average one course per quarter) per academic year. A ?course? is a 3- or 4-credit hour course that may be a lecture, a lab, or some combination thereof. This position will have responsibility for course design, the composition of the course syllabus, selection of text and other supporting materials, choice of topics and subject matter, fashioning presentations, creating assessment tools, superviseing graduate teaching adjuncts assigned to the course, and assigning grades. The methods of instruction must follow the best practices for diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion. Compliance with University academic regulations is required/essential.

45% Research:
This position will conduct research in their area of specialization in such a manner that attracts national and international recognition and establishes the employee's reputation for scholarly excellence. Such activities are expected to include but not be limited to: supervision of students and postdoctoral associates in the execution of research; publication of research results in the peer-reviewed literature; presentation of research results at scientific meetings and conferences; publication of non-refereed papers, web publications, books, and book chapters; filing patent applications; submission of grant proposals and administration of prosperous grants; compliance with University regulatory policies concerning grants and research.

10% Service:
Participation on Department, College, and University committees; participation in training and professional development to maintain a current knowledge of best practices in teaching, mentoring, and interacting with students; in all service functions, advancing the goals of improving diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion; participation in peer review activities; promotion of the profession through outreach and participation in professional societies.
