Position Overview: We are pursuing a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and skilled individual to join our burgeoning Life Sciences team as a Pharma Associate. The Pharma Associate will play a key function in supporting various aspects of the patent drafting and prosecution in life sciences, biotechnology, and chemical areas. The ideal candidate should possess practice in drafting original patent applications in one or more of the above fields. The Associate will also have an opportunity to participate in strategic counseling such as opinion work. You will work directly with Marbury's Head of Life Sciences, Michelle O'Brien, as well as Tom Irving, who has nearly 50 years of practice in patent law, most of which has been in the pharma field. We are seeking for a candidate who prefers a mid-size firm over a large one and who ultimately aspires to become a partner within the firm. Educational Background: The ideal candidate is a registered U.S. patent attorney or agent with a PH. D in biology, chemistry, or a related field. Strong attention to detail and the capability to follow procedures accurately are required. Excellent communication and teamwork expertise are needed. S/he will have the capability to work effectively in a fast-paced, but pleasant and fun environment and adapt to changing priorities. practice: The ideal candidate should have 2-4 years of patent practice in one of the fields noted above in prosecuting existing patent applications and drafting new ones. tasks: The candidate will focus mainly on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in one or more of the above fields. tasks, however, may also include the drafting and analysis of patent re-examinations and reissues as well as opinions of counsel, such as Freedom to Operate; management and direction of foreign counsel; client counseling, infringement analysis, validity/patentcapability analysis, particularly in view of recent developments in Obviousness-Type Double Patenting (similar to Cellect) and the Safe Harbor of §121, and §112 (f) means plus function pharma claims, Orange Book listing strategy and analysis, re-examination and reissue request drafting, IP licensing, IP due diligence, engaging in post-grant IPR and PGR practice, and assistance with marketing and client development efforts; ultimately, review and management of junior associate work product and direction of paralegal staff. income: We offer a unique compensation structure which provides a generous base income with an expectation of 1550 minimum billed hours per year. For employees who generate over 1550 billed hours per year, we also offer a formula-located bonus for each billed hour over 1550 hours.
