Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Electrical/Control Systems Technician position for the Facilities Services department at Oregon State University (OSU).

The purpose of this position is to provide skilled electrical support as a Service Call or Projects, Electrical/Control Systems Technician. The primary responsibilities are to respond to all electrical needs of the university. These needs range from service calls to projects, from routine to emergencies in nature. Service calls will range from lighting system troubleshooting and repair to troubleshooting and repair of air compressors, motor/pumps, and their controls. Our technicians will assist in the installation, alteration, of space remodels, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures, air compressors, motors, pumps, and their controls. Our technicians will assist in the construction, protection, repair, maintenance, and preservation of physical facilities. Additionally, our technicians will assist with the maintenance and repair of the utility systems of the University. The effective performance of these technician functions affects the entire University student body, faculty, and staff. Our technicians are expected to conduct themselves in conformity with the mission, vision, and values of the organization and per the Facilities Operations & Maintenance department's internal expectations, which are outlined in the document titled ?Expectations of a Professional Work Environment.?

Electrical work will be performed at a journeyman level. This work will be done in a timely manner. At the completion of the job, the work area will be left clean and free of debris. All tools and materials shall be removed from the job site and dealt with accordingly. The job site will be left in a condition conducive to either immediate occupancy or ready for the next trade, whichever applies. Follow-up trades or shop, as well as the manager, will be notified within 24 hours of the job's completion. All related paperwork will be completed and submitted in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities 40%: Maintains OSU Electrical Systems.
   » Troubleshooting and repairing lighting and lighting control systems, computerized electronic controls in building mechanical systems, air compressors (pneumatics), motors/pumps, and their controls, the maintenance and repair and/or installation of new electrical systems; bending and replacing, rigid, thin-wall, and flex conduit, boxes, controls, disconnects, motors, transformers and electrical/electronic devices of all kinds, industrial control systems, wiring and connections.
   » Installs relays and limit switches, float switches, etc.
   » Use electric and electronic test equipment, recording meters, circuit tracers, multi-meters and megohmeters; use manometers, hygrometer (psychrometers), electronic thermometers, and pneumatic pressure gauges to troubleshoot and repair mechanical control systems.
   » Incumbent will operate a university owned vehicle in the execution of everyday tasks.

20%: Planning, Design & Construction
   » Review plans, designs, and drafts of wiring diagrams and pneumatic plans, for lighting, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration controls used in buildings.
   » Determines best method for installation of electrical and control equipment as well as proper sizing of pipes, electrical conductors, short circuit and over current protection, magnetic starters and panelboards.
   » Reviews plans and specifications submitted by contractors and consulting engineers for new construction projects and remodeling of State-owned facilities.
   » Inspects completed work for compliance with plans and specifications.
   » Provides technical advice and estimates labor and material costs for electrical and control projects.
   » Consults with university staff and building tenants to identify problems in building electrical and mechanical systems and recommends appropriate corrective action to be taken.

15%: Routine Maintenance
   » Performs routine preventive, scheduled, and corrective maintenance on electrical distribution systems, panels, magnetic starters, pumps, transformer connections, and various electrical devices.

15%: Materials Handling & Reporting
   » Effectively handles materials, stocks trucks and shop, charges out materials from Central Stores, completes material lists for projects.
   » Enters everyday timecards through the current Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and EmpCenter.

5%: Customer Service
   » Participation in quality and continuous improvement activities is an integral part of all Facilities Services positions.
   » All employees are expected to exercise good customer service communication expertise, as appropriate, on every job, keeping the customer and/or requestor informed of every job's progress through completion, and using door hangers or other notification devices where appropriate. Actively participates in orientation, cross orientation, and committee activities as required.

5%: Emergency response & other tasks as assigned.
   » May be called in to assist with emergency response for support and repairs on secondary electrical systems and campus street lighting systems.
   » Become familiar with and follow all construction standards, standard operating procedures, policies, and practices set forth for Facilities Services.
   » Maintain and knowledge of and follow all business rules, standard operating procedures, and administrative practices for work management tasks using the current CMMS system.
   » Participate in quality and continuous improvement activities as an integral part of the Facilities Services team.
   » Exercise good customer service, communication expertise, keeping the customer and/or requestor informed of each job's progress through completion.
What We Require Two years of journey-level practice planning, designing, installing, and maintaining building pneumatic electronic, and electrical control and distribution systems and possession of one of the following Oregon Electrician's Licenses appropriate to the work to be performed:

• General Supervising Electrician License
• General Journeyman Electrician License

What You Will Need
   » Must be in possession of and maintain the appropriate State of Oregon Electrician license. Must provide electrical license number with application.
   » Excellent organizational expertise, strong communication expertise and a self-motivated individual.
   » High attention to detail.
   » capability to work independently and complete tasks and projects with moderate supervision a must.
   » Able to work effectively in a team environment; capability to accurately work under pressure in meeting scheduled time frames.
   » practice with Microsoft Outlook or equivalent software.
   » Proven electrical expertise, the capability to read and understand documents, a strong knowledge of how things work and operate together in a Service environment.
   » Effective communication and customer service expertise.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

   » 5 years, or more, practice in a university or comparable setting, with maintenance and repair of electrical/electronic systems and equipment, including air compressors, motors, pumps, and their controls, lighting and lighting control systems, ADA doors, and access controls (Hirsch/Velocity) practice.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
   » This position's schedule will be either 5- 8hr. days, 7am-3:30pm, or 4-10 hr. days, 7am- 5:30pm, Monday- Thursday, or Tuesday- Friday.
   » Most tasks of this position include continuous overhead work, bending, stooping, and lifting, standing, working in extreme weather conditions and may require working a flexible schedule (including weekends, evenings, holidays and, during inclement weather).
   » This position is deemed essential, and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures.
   » Working locations include but are not limited to inside, outside, machinery rooms, clean rooms, labs, offices, and classrooms.
   » This position uses a university vehicle in the performance of tasks.
   » Staff will promote a congenial work environment and be courteous at all times.
