Job Offer: Chief Broadcast Engineer:Arizona Public MediaJob description: Chief Broadcast Engineer Listing description Arizona Public Media seeks a talented and highly practiced Chief Broadcast Engineer. Thispositionreports to the senior leadership abilities team. The prosperous candidate is responsible for everyday Television and Radio broadcast operations. They will lead and manage AZPM's broadcast and physical infrastructure. Position maximizes the quality, relicapability, and robustness of AZPM's infrastructure in support of its public service mission. This position coordinates AZPM's content delivery and physical infrastructure necessary to best leverage techniques to build programming, donor, and listener interactions. The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of microwave transmission systems, digital television, radio transmitters, and HD radio broadcasting. Must be able to accommodate shift changes, including extended hours, weekends, evenings, and 24/7 on-call response to technical issues. For more information about working at the University of Arizona and relocations services, pleaseclick here. tasks & Responsibilities » Ensure proper operation of all facilities, including transmitters, translators, control systems, audio routing, playback systems, studios, and all related equipment in the on-air, production, and transmission signal chains. » Ensure station is operating within FCC parameters and policy as specified in Parts 73 and 74. Maintain station licenses (AM/FM/ITFS/ATSC1/ATSC3). » Direct the day-to-dayoperations and technology staff to ensure reliable and effective operation of Television and Radio broadcast system as well as current and future IP located delivery systems. Helping recruit and train the next generation of broadcast RF and media engineers, and instill the knowledge of the standards, best practices, and regulations around FCC licensed broadcasting. » supervise and manage all engineering and facility contractors. » Training of all transmitter operations personnel to a skill level that renders those employees knowledgeable and capable of performing their tasks in full compliance with F.C.C. rules before assuming their responsibilities. » Training of all non-transmitter operations personnel to a skill level required for the position by the organization and accepted engineering practice. » Help design the Public Broadcasting facility of the future. » Evaluate technologies and vendors in the ATSC3, HD Radio and 4K editing spaces for best in breed products and services. » Help create new workflows and solution to an ever-evolving media distribution landscape. » Maintain and troubleshoot issues on broadcast-specific software and operational services for news and programming. » Maintain and keep in proper working order all transmission and studio equipment. » Ensure that the automated processes at the studios are operating properly. » Purchase of all capital and non-capital items necessary for proper operation of the facility. » Work with CTO on engineering and technology budgets, superviseing all broadcast and technology expenditures to ensure they conform to the stated plan and goals of AZPM. » Identify technology opportunities to increase organization effectiveness and efficiency internally and externally. » Other tasks as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: » Knowledge of F.C.C. rules pertinent to television and radio broadcast technical requirements as found in Parts 73 and 74. » Be a self-starter and able to lgain quickly in a fast-paced environment, working both independently and as a part of a diverse team. » Be project oriented, organized, detail oriented and able to show a list of previously executed projects from concept to completion. » Demonstrate the capability to pivot and manage changing priorities and tight deadlines. » Be willing to expand their knowledge with emerging broadcast industry concepts/technologies. Minimum Appropriate qualifications: » Bachelor's degree. Minimum of 5 years of related work practice, including 2 years of managerial practice, or equivalent combination of education and work practice. » Must be able to accommodate shift changes including extended hours, weekends, evenings, and 24/7 on-call response to technical issues. » Flexible work schedule is required to accommodate evening/weekend hours and travel to on-site locations for recordings. » Must have a valid driver's license and capability to drive according to the UniversityFleet Safety Policy. Preferred Appropriate qualifications: » practice with AutoCAD and Visio software. » practice with Production Control software. » practice with Broadcast Automation Systems and related equipment. » practice with Newsroom NRCS/MAM Systems. » practice with Adobe Creative Software Products. » practice supervising and scheduling and managing a technical staff. » Previous practice as Chief Engineer or Technical manager at television or radio broadcast station preferred.
