Organizational Unit Overview The Division of Hematology/ Oncology is within the department of Pediatrics. The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest clinical departments within the East Carolina University School of Medicine. The mission of the Department is to provide quality patient care, to teach medical students and residents, and to do research. Additionally, Information technology is the mission of the division to provide model comprehensive hematology and oncology consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific expertise through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for providers in the region. The achievement of this mission requires a full staff commitment to the goals and operations of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the Department of Pediatrics, the East Carolina University School of Medicine, and East Carolina University.

Job tasks The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is recruiting for a Social Work Practitioner. The major purpose of this position is the coordination and delivery of social work services to patients and their families as well as extended care givers. The superviseing and coordination of these services includes but is not limited to:

• Independently providing in-depth assessments of families' dynamics and needs & detailed treatment intervention.
• Conduct individual, group, and grief counseling to populations with chronic, emotional and/or psychosocial complications as well as family dysfunctions.
• Advocate for rights and services, referrals, and follow-up in sensitive and/or traumatic situations. • Establish and maintain contact with agencies and monitors services for quality
• Provides consultation on psychosocial issues
• Provides supervision and training to undergraduate and graduate students
• Establish and maintain contact with agencies and monitors services for quality
• Available to serve as expert witness in court hearings involving child support issues, custodial care involving neglect and abuse and physical care.
• Acts as a consultant to other peer associates and to the community at large, providing educational and technical guidance.

CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION - NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center. ECU Health Medical Center is the flagship hospital for the ECU Health system and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457). This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS). Additionally, this position offers multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance as well as various supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Discapability.

Minimum Education/practice Bachelor's degree in a Human Services discipline with coursework related to the area of assignment. Some positions may require certification to practice as a certified or licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification Board. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation N/A

Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education Masters degree in Social Work or Bachelor degree with 2 years practice.
